Hey now, they're MEN, and they'll tell the rest of us what's attractive, dammit.

Yeah, it's more than a bit pathetic.

Okay, I had to look up Rudolph Valentino and to me, he's kind of stereotypical of what that generation looked like, so I'm surprised it's all "He's too pretty."

And as far as Justin Bieber looks like a girl ... well, have you seen the Tumblr or whatever site it is "Lesbians Who Look Like Justin Bieber"? It's an awfully big coincidence, just saying. Though that Selena Gomez chick he's dating now is awfully pretty. :)

I dunno, I think that might have to do with a certain subset of lesbians who dress like kinda douchey boys. Abercrombie shirt, cargos, gelled hair= douchebag alert on boys. Somehow, on a 20something lady, it turns into cuteness through magical lesbian alchemy.

"magical lesbian alchemy"
<3 it

Side note: tell me more what I should find sexy, humans who are not me. I really need you to make MOAR decisions for me I feel like I've been left to think on my own for far too long, I might have some dangerous thoughts.

I think I might be the worst person on earth for that kind of advice. I don't get out very much, and the sexy folks I have found have been in ways like "tabletop roleplaying games".

As usual, I have nothing of value to add to your astute observations about gender and how our society is fucked in the head.

However, this did remind me of my dad telling a story about how, when he first saw the Beatles, he thought they were really ugly women. I'm still not sure what to make of that story, even now.

Like I said, nothing of value, nothing at all.

I am reminded of the many, many stories about women dressing as men to become soldiers back in the day. Where this was accomplished with a haircut and pants, because there was that rigid of distinctions.

I've read quite a lot of things like that, started with this: http://www.amazon.com/They-Fought-Like-Demons-Conflicting/dp/0807128066 I quite enjoyed it, think I gave it away to some library or another.

Oooh! I must check that out. I know less about the Civil War than I'd like, and that sounds amazing.

I also know a lot of female pirates dressed as men.

You're a rugged man's man, with means you eat no fibre

Remember...

...A real man is permanently constipated.

(Insert hilarious conspiracy about the seemingly immortal association of grunting with uber-masculinity.)

I know we brought this up in a past entry too. I think there really is a conspiracy against men and their colons, reinforced by other dudes.

I motherfuckin' AWTP, for entirely predictable reasons.

Filament, which has sadly just announced its discontinuation, got a lot of flak for "only featuring girlyboys", which it really didn't (there was of course acres of gas about "what women want" and the destruction of masculinity). As Suraya frustratedly told people, she published what she got sent. That's what the (female) photographers who took the pictures wanted to take pictures of.

Well, they're clearly wrong in both their desires to look and photograph. Angry manly men say so.

On a related note: this article. It's talking about porn, but I think you could apply it generally: in short, men don't like other men looking pretty because of a deep angst that they might be attracted to them themselves.

I don't understand it at all. There's men I think are gorgeous. Doesn't mean I want to have sex with them. Well, maybe a tiny bit, but not really. But, not being a screaming homophobe and all, I don't stake my own value as a human being on who I want to have sex with, oddly enough.
