So I was going to switch my mobile service to CREDO, which is for hippies, and finally get a smartphone, but then I was talking to my officemate about it yesterday and she said, "Why not just get an iPad?" and she was showing me her iPad and I thought, "Why not, indeed!" I can't remember if you use a Mac or not? Because if you're going from Mac to Mac the transition is awfully damn easy. Once you plug a crossover cable from one to the other and turn on Appletalk so they can talk to each other, it's pretty much "oh hey, did you want to move your stuff over" "yes, yes I do" and then a few hours later it's done.

I've been tempted by an iPad myself because I don't have a laptop and sometimes I'd like to be on the internet while reclining on the couch. But since the iPad has no USB port they kind of rely on wi-fi and my home network is wired and I don't feel like buying more equipment and futzing with that whole business.

You can either get a transfer cable to move files from one to the other, or do the external hard drive thing--which would mean you'd have a backup, too.
