Hi all. I'm new here and I don't usually write in communities much, but here you go.
John McCain admits that picking Sarah Palin as his running mate was a "cold political calculation" meant to be a counterweight to the "liberal feminist agenda" (see video below). And then he goes on talking about how Palin is a conservative, she has a wonderful family, she's pro-America blah blah blah.
OK...So what exactly does John McCain mean by this? That if you are either a liberal or a feminist (or both), then your family is less worthy than other families? Or that you don't care about your family? Or that if women choose to do anything else with their lives besides having lots of kids and staying home to take care of them, then they are somehow not patriotic or pro-family? Really, I'm trying to figure out exactly what he is insinuating here.
I'm also not quite clear on what's so scary about this "liberal feminist agenda". Equal opportunity for everyone? Oh no, we can't have that! Affordable education for everyone? Scary stuff there. A progressive tax policy? Horrible thought! A health care system that actually allows people to go to the doctor when they get sick? I'm shuddering! A society that doesn't make women fear for their lives every time they walk out their front door after dark? Why, you despicable un-American socialist! Letting people choose for themselves who to marry or letting women choose for themselves what to do with their own bodies? The horror!
I said back when McCain picked the dimwitted lovely impeccably qualified Governor Palin to be his running mate that the pick would end up showing everyone just how much he hated women. Sure enough, McCain has not disappointed me. He picks an empty headed clueless Barbie doll to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Rush Limbaugh gets excited because the GOP has a "babe" on the ticket. Then the McCain campaign spends $150,000 on clothes and accessories for her, in keeping with the Barbie doll theme. He keeps her completely sheltered from the media and in front of friendly crowds as much as possible, because, after all, she's a fragile little thing and she might break if asked anything of substance.
And I won't even get into how many women who are actually exceptionally qualified that he passed over for the job, including many high-ranking Republicans, since that's already been done. But I think that what's clear is that McCain doesn't give a damn about women or what's important to them. He doesn't give a damn about advancing equality or breaking down glass ceilings. McCain simply made a cold political calculation to get his own little Barbie doll to dress up who would stand there and look pretty for the cameras while parroting his campaign's trite slogans about who is and isn't a "real American".
McCain's own running mate is nothing more than a pretty object to him. Ooh shiny! A calculation. Not a woman, not a person, not someone who is even remotely qualified to even be governor of Alaska, much less President of the United States.
Really, enough. I'm so sick of this crap that I can no longer find the words to express the depths of my disgust. I can only imagine Senator Clinton's feelings on this absurd spectacle. We can only hope that she'll run again in 2016.
