I know this is an important event in the GLBTQA community, but the key word in THIS LJ community is HAPPY. This is a community for HAPPY stories and events, and this one is not. Not at all. Please stay on topic and keep things positive here.
I'm sorry that this wasn't on topic, but I don't really think that's the best thing to do. Hinder news just because it isn't "happy." If you wish, I will take this down, but I strongly disagree with that policy.
I am saying this as a trans person who NEEDS happy spaces to stay sane: it is off topic. Therefore, it shouldn't have been posted here. This is a happy place, for some of us it's the only happy place where transpeople are accepted. Posting information about a trans murder (which we can get from the 15 million other GLBT -- especially T -- communities on LJ) here is jarring in a way that most people wouldn't understand.
I understand that it's important. I understand that this sort of news does need to get passed around. However, it should be kept in areas that aren't specifically designed for good news. We get enough bad news everywhere else.
I know it's not the general rule of the community to post negative things so can understand why others aren't keen on this post and support what they have to say. I hope that you posted this in other communities that are more media based, despite if it is negative or positive as despite this not being the directed place for it, it's important to get out.
As my own personal information I'm glad that this was posted as it was the only way I heard about it. I've searched it online a bit and have found very little other information and serious lacks in media. That makes me frustrated as well, to say the least.
