So I signed up for the British TV Technical Challenge that marcasite is holding, but I haven't seen a whole lot of any of the shows, except Sherlock and the first season of Merlin. Recommendations on which show to start watching?
OMG! Lots of good shows here! Personally I just finished Luther and I highly highly recommend it. Additionally Downton Abbey and Misfits are really very amazing.
Thanks so, so much for the recommendation!! Just tried the second episode of Luther. It's soo good so far, even though it's really hard to see Idris Elba being someone who is not Stringer Bell. My heart needs time to process that separation. Downton Abbey is definitely intriguing so far as well. Sadly, I couldn't find Misfits as easily. And now am feeling overwhelmed by all the BBC goodness. How can they have so many amazing shows?! I need time to pause right now so that I have time to watch all these shows >[
Being Human, Merlin, and I heard Sherlock is good. I tried to watch Call Girl for Billie Piper, but failed. But I wouldn't even know who Billie Piper was if it wasn't for Doctor Who! I'm addicted to that show! Absolutely! Every episode is like an epic movie in forty-five minutes! MINDBLOWING, seriously. I'd recommend starting with series one of the 2005 show (with Rose and the 9th Doctor). And after that, get into Torchwood - a slashfiction dream, with legitimately bisexual leading man Captain Jack Harkness, who makes his debut in the Doctor Who episode "The Empty Child" in season one. You will LOVE Jack, I'm certain of it. But watch Doctor Who FIRST and Torchwood will be SO MUCH BETTER.
I'd also recommend The IT Crowd for some classic comedy. One of my favorite IT Crowd clips - Sandwich - Coffee!
Thanks! I'd been avoiding Doctor Who after seeing a few episodes from what I think might have been Series 2 or 3 of the new version (with 10 and Rose), but being put off by just the darkness. (I fully acknowledge how ridiculous that sounds given how dark I can handle stuff in most other ways -- a la the darkest fanfics and more personally dark stuff, I suppose, but somehow the idea of systematic darkness with no personal edge, in the way of the cybermen, where there's no pretty face to associate with that darkness, is just... different. And yes, I realize how awful that should-have-been sentence was
( ... )
Also, the River Song storyline starts (ends?) in an two-parter in series 4 with Donna Noble called "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead" which is also really, really clever.
I was a bit on the fence and I was about to mark Misfits but I marked Luther instead. Idris Elba is awesome, the characters are just amazing, spacially Alice and Luther himself. It's also a very interesting show and after watching Misfits, that is also very good, I'd go with Luther, I really don't know why exactly but I loved it.
Wanted to say. I started series 2 of Being Human last night and it reminded me how much I love this show, too. But I stick my Doctor Who rec - it's still better.
