Sungmin is shivering because it’s cold out, and rain is streaking down the windows. The clouds are black and the rain is angry. Thunder crashes, and Sungmin covers his ears. He hates the sound of thunder, but he can’t pull himself away from the window. He has to keep his promise, and he will.
“You should be in bed, like everyone else,” says someone and Sungmin turns to see Kangin. “Their plane got delayed. It isn’t going to be here until tomorrow morning at the earliest.” Sungmin nods.
“I know,” he says, “but I promised him I’d wait up for him.” Kangin walks over to the window and sits down next to him.
“But that isn’t what this is all about, is it?” Kangin sighs and pulls Sungmin into a half hug. “Talk to me…Leeteuk’s sleeping already.” Sungmin smiles and then nods.
“I just feel so helpless. I wish he was back here. I want to see him so badly the feelings are all whipping around in my heart just like this storm.” Kangin nods.
“I imagine,” he says, and Sungmin can’t help but wonder if he really does. “Even so,” says Kangin, “you staying up and giving yourself a cold isn’t going to help him come home any faster.” Lightning streaks across the sky, illuminating their shapes, and all of a sudden Sungmin feels very tired.
“Okay,” he says, “I’ll go to bed…,” Kangin nods and lets him go.
“And Kangin,” says Sungmin, “thank you.” As he walks to bed, the storm in his heart begins to quell, even as the thunderstorm outside rages on.
