The girls all watched the first episode of Star Date when it
aired and checked the ratings. The views were high, but the reactions to the
show were mixed. Though a lot of fans were happy with the show, there were
still some fans who complained about the couples.
“Oh well,” said Mihi, “you can’t make everyone happy.”
Logging on to the Star Date home page, they checked to see who was in the lead
in votes for the first week. It turned out that Ana and Kyuhyun were first, Ara
and Sungmin were second, Mihi and Eunhyuk were third, Aemi and Yesung were
fourth, and Sunhee and Donghae were in last place.
“Awww, that’s not fair!” said Sunhee, as the others analyzed
their own situations.
“Well,” said Aemi, “it could have been worse.” That night
after dinner, all the girls separated to do their own thing, Ana and Ara in thier
room, Sunhee in the living room, Mihi sitting at the kitchen counter, and Aemi
in her room. Pulling out her phone, Aemi sent a text to Yesung.
“Did you see our rating?” she asked.
“Yup,” he said, “I guess we’ll just have to try harder.” She
nodded to herself then, remembering he couldn’t see her texted him back.
“Yeah. Let’s raise our ranking next week.”
The next date that they were to film was an amusement park
date with both groups there at the same time. The filming crew took care of all
the preparations, and the girls were all excited for their day out at the park.
When they arrived, Super Junior was already there, talking
to the film crew. The boys had all dressed pretty casually, Donghae in a tank
top and jeans with a baseball cap, Eunhyuk and Yesung in loose t-shirts and
jeans, and Sungmin and Kyuhyun in button down shirts with the sleeves rolled up
half way and jeans. The girls themselves had also dressed pretty casually, Aemi
in a t-shirt and jeans, Mihi and Sunhee in tank tops and skinny jeans, and the
twins wearing jeans under casual dresses. The two groups greeted each other and
filming started, each couple going their own separate way.
“So,” said Donghae to Sunhee as they walked along in the
amusement park, “what do you want to do first?”
“Oh,” said Sunhee, “we should go buy cute stuff from the
gift shop and eat ice cream and ride all the rides.” Donghae laughed and
nodded.
“Let’s go!” he said. First, they visited the gift shop and
both bought cute ribbon headbands, Donghae’s orange and Sunhees blue. Then, they
went and got ice cream from a nearby vendor, sitting down to eat it.
“I wonder why we’re last,” said Sunhee, as they ate their
ice cream, “our dates are so much fun.” Donghae shrugged.
“Everyone must just be jealous of us.” Sunhee nodded.
“That must be it!” she said. Nodding, she stood and turned
to face Donghae.
“If that’s the case,” she said to him, smiling, “then we
should never raise our ranking!” Donghae laughed and nodded.
“Yeah,” he said, “let’s just keep having fun instead.”
Meanwhile, Aemi and Yesung were walking in circles, a little
lost.
“Wasn’t it that way?” asked Aemi, and Yesung looked at the
map.
“No,” he said, “I think we passed it.” Going over to him,
Aemi looked at the map.
“I was sure it said to go that way though,” she mumbled,
trying to find where they were on the map. Yesung scratched his head. They were
looking for the merry go round because neither of them liked roller coasters
very much.
“Augh…why is this so hard?” asked Aemi, looking around. She
wondered if they were ever going to find it. Just then, Yesung put down the
map.
“Oh!” he said, “it’s over there, right?” He pointed to a
structure not too far ahead of them on the other side of a wall of foliage.
“Is that?” asked Aemi, only able to see a little of it from
behind the bushes.
“Yeah, let’s go!” said Yesung, and Aemi shrugged.
“Okay.” Following Yesung, they headed in the direction that
would hopefully take them to the merry go round. Aemi wondered if they could
ever raise their ranking like this.
“Hyukkie oppa,” said Mihi, “can we please, please go on the
roller coaster?” Eunhyuk looked up at the tall structure and felt his smile
fading.
“Uh, can we not?” Mihi pouted.
“But roller coasters are so fun!” Eunhyuk sighed.
“Are they?” Mihi nodded.
“I love roller coasters.” Eunhyuk was troubled, and Mihi
frowned.
“Is there anywhere else you want to go?” he asked, and Mihi
thought.
“All of the other rides I guess.” Eunhyuk paled.
“You can actually ride all of them?” Mihi nodded. Eunhyuk
could feel his legs starting to shake at even the thought of riding one of the
park’s huge roller coasters, and Mihi could see how scared he was.
“Hmmm,” she said, holding Eunhyuk’s hand, “I change my mind.”
Eunhyuk looked over at her in surprise. Although she seemed a little
disappointed, she smiled at him.
“Are you sure?” he asked, and she nodded.
“Let’s go play in the arcade instead.” Hugging his arm, they
walked happily through the park together to find the arcade.
“Thank you, princess,” said Eunhyuk, feeling like he had
just cheated death.
“Heeey,” said Ara, as she and Sungmin walked through the
park, “shouldn’t we ask Ana and Kyuhyun what they’re doing?” Sungmin shrugged.
“It doesn’t really matter, does it?” he asked. She frowned.
“Of course it does,” she said, “she’s my sister. We do
everything together.” Sungmin frowned.
“Really?” he asked, and Ara nodded.
“So we should go find them.” Sungmin shook his head.
“You should be more independent,” he said, taking her hand
and leading her over to a bench by a cute fountain, “you shouldn’t just do
whatever your sister’s doing.” Ara frowned.
“But I’ll be lonely without her,” she said, and Sungmin
smiled at her gently.
“No you won’t,” he said, “not anymore. You have me now. I’ll
always be here to keep you company.” Ara blushed, and looked away from Sungmin,
but she couldn’t hide the small smile that appeared on her face.
“Okay,” she said, “maybe I could just try it for today.”
Sungmin smiled at her.
“That’s the spirit,” he said, standing and offering her his
hand, “now, let’s go find something fun to do.” Hand in hand, the two of them
walked through the park, looking for something to do.
Meanwhile, Ana wasn’t having such a good time.
“Oh my gosh!” shouted a fan, as soon as she and Kyuhyun had
started heading towards where they had wanted to go. More fans had begun to
gather around, and although they didn’t really recognize her, they recognized
Kyuhyun, and pushing and crowding around the two of them, the fans shouted for
Kyuhyun to sing or sign things for them. Kyuhyun tried politely declining them,
but they wouldn’t leave. Apologizing to Ana, Kyuhyun led her towards someplace
to sit and then stood up and sang for the fans. Ana huffed, crossing her arms
and pouting. It was supposed to be her time with Kyuhyun.
When he had finished singing, she hoped the fans would
leave, but they asked to take pictures with him instead. Standing in front of
where she was sitting and taking picture after picture with Kyuhyun, it seemed
like the fans would never go away. Finally, when the last one had finished
taking pictures with Kyuhyun, he turned around to talk to Ana.
“I’m sorry,” he said, “but they’re fans. You understand,
right?” Ana crossed her arms but nodded.
“Well, I hope that now that they’re happy I might be able to
finally spend some time with you.” They walked into the park awkwardly, neither
really knowing what to say.
At the end of the day, the couples all met by the park’s
giant ferris wheel. The PD told them to get on so that they could take some
couple shots, so the idols did. Two by two, each couple got into their own
carriage, and the ferris wheel started to slowly revolve. Looking over the
lights of the park below them, all the couples felt a calm happiness washing
over them. The day had been an interesting one in so many ways, and they were
sure that it would be one they would never forget. Though not everything had
gone exactly as planned, they were satisfied to be looking out on the beautiful
night time scenery.
“Hey,” said Ana, “I’m sorry about earlier.” Kyuhyun just
smiled and put an arm around her, pulling her close.
“You know,” said Ara, “I had a lot of fun with you today.
And you were right about not being lonely.” Sungmin smiled.
“I’m glad,” he said.
“Even though we didn’t go on roller coasters I had a lot of
fun with you today,” said Mihi, “I like Hyukkie-Oppa the best after all.” Eunhyuk
smiled shyly, taking Mihi’s hand.
“Yeah, me too.”
“Sorry we got so lost today,” said Aemi, “but it was fun
going on an adventure with you.” Yesung smiled.
“Of course,” he said, “let’s be sure to go on many more.”
“Even if we’re last again,” mused Sunhee, “I wouldn’t care.”
Donghae nodded.
“I’m happy,” he said, “as long as I can be with you.”
So, like that, the amusement park date ended. The couples
each went back to their respective dorms, dreaming sweet dreams about their significant
others. They were excited and anxious to see how the show ratings would be.
They hoped, that maybe at the end of the show, they could be accepted as real
couples.
