Yes, I totally recommend you get clothes there if you can. Particularly the tailor-made stuff. Good quality, and far cheaper than you could get locally.
I was there 4ish years ago. We flew into Phuket from Singapore, and stayed at Patong Beach and a small resort on the Phi Phi Islands. Mostly did a bunch of laid-back touristy things, like food and shopping and hanging out on the beach, which were a lot of fun. Went to the Phuket Zoo, and got to hold a tiger cub. Lovely weather.

Did you check if there are some ordinary American things that can be traded for higher value. For instance, when the Soviet Union fell apart, American blue-jeans, Levi's in particular could be traded for much more than one would think.
My cousin went a few years ago and found a tailor who was willing to continue to make him things as long as he keeps his info with the tailor up-to-date. Would you like me to ask him for the reference?

I think six(6) days in Bangkok is more than enough, we went over there before, we stayed for 4-5 days for two(2) cities, a lot of Temples, pretty good food if you enjoy Thai food, weather is very hot there most of time, shopping is okay too but you should know what you are doing. Dad.
