If you used to smoke--- To the best of your knowledge, why did you smoke?
I began smoking in Basic Training because men were given a choice of either taking a smoke break, or go study or shine shoes. Since life was rigid, and chance to just stand around and relax looked appealing.
How did you quit? Why did you quit? Two things happened. I left the military, where packs of cigarettes cost .25 each (or cartons for $2.00), and I discovered a substitute for the smoking habit, cannabis. Cannabis helped me quit smoking tobacco since 1976.
Why do you think other people smoke?
it breaks my heart my two children are addicted to tobacco. I think the social status of smoking, along with peer pressure and marketing of a specific image appeals to people with mildly addictive traits.
why do you think other people quit?
Typically for health reasons. It is not so much economic as it is a realization that smoking contributes to early death and reduced quality of life.
I am an occassional social smoker. Once in a while, with friends, and usually while drinking. Cigars are more fun, though. I get the mouth feel and taste, but my lungs aren't as torn up by it. It's been years since I had a cigar or a cigarette
