The things that get done in the name of the Olympics...all Olympic host cities have a history of major 'clean-up' before the event and up there with the fate of the cats, gentrification is awful, too.
Maybe I'm hearing more about the 'clean-up' because it's China and they already have a reputation of being a certain way. A friend of mine brought the article to my attention and I just haven't been able to get the pictures out of my mind. It also doeasn't help that I'm a big animal lover.
In spirit and competition I think the idea of the Olympics is pretty cool, but moving around from country to county, building arenas that people never use again, seems a little too extravagant and wasteful. Whatever happened to letting the sports be about the sports? Now we've got atheletes running around with sparklers and twirling around under fireworks.

china isnt really known for being champions of human rights, and when it comes to animals, probably even less so.
the athlete who holds the marathon record wont even compete in the olympics in china because he doesnt want to be exposed to the pollution.
im starting to think china isnt the best place to hold the olympics.
