(Right after this)

Nadiyah: *wants*

Luthien: !!!

Nadiyah: *clings*

Luthien: You did such a good job, dear!

Nadiyah: But I was SCARED

Luthien: I was so scared when I gave birth to Dior. It was very frightening. I'm sorry I wasn't there.

Nadiyah: I did want to wait for you. *sidles over looking like she wants a hug*

Luthien: *HUG*

Nadiyah: *purrs* You will check the baby? It would be like a blessing...

Luthien: Of course I will.

Nadiyah: *half-drags you to the crib*

Luthien: *coos at the baby* May I hold him?

Nadiyah: Please! I want you to. I wanted you to be there.

Luthien: *gently picks up the baby and examines him thoroughly* What a beautiful baby. *whispers Elvish blessings over the child*

Nadiyah: *relaxes, finally* Thank you, Lady.

Luthien: He's perfect.

Nadiyah: *quietly, proudly* He is Halbarad's.

Luthien: He'll grow up to be a fine man. I think he and Drefan will be good friends when they get a little older.

Nadiyah: Drefan is...the princeling? Your son?

Luthien: Yes. He's a few months old now.

Nadiyah: Very close indeed... *curious* He is elven...will he age the same?

Luthien: He's only half-elven. The aging is fairly similar to that of a human. It depends on the individual, there are very few peredhel and no two are the same.

Nadiyah: That must be confusing, for a mother.

Luthien: Dior aged physically at the same rate as a human, and more quickly mentally. Niphredil is still learning to speak, when most human children can at her age. But that's all right, because Elves don't usually master speech until around seven years of age.

Nadiyah: And Alcawyn? ...oh, no, she is not yours.

Luthien: She's not mine biologically, but she's still my daughter.

Nadiyah: *turns red* I, uh, I did not mean...I meant, she is not elven. I meant no offense. Of course she is yours. It is...subtle, that word.

Luthien: Don't worry about it. She is not elven, no, but she is older than she should be for other reasons.

Nadiyah: *face falls slightly* Oh. Yes. I remember her older self. This place is... *she doesn't want to say "cursed"* ...strange.

Luthien: It is. But not as strange as it used to be. If I may say so, it's calmed down a good bit recently.

Nadiyah: Almost too calm. Will the city be rebuilt this time?

Luthien: I think so. I hope so. The people have been through much, they deserve peace.

Nadiyah: *peers out the window* Well, it LOOKS better. *glances back* Where IS your Drefan?

Luthien: Eomer is watching him.

Nadiyah: *quietly* You must be glad to have him back.

Luthien: More than I can say.

Nadiyah: *hesitantly* I am, uh, glad too. We do not get along but...he is the king. Places need kings. *smile* Or queens. You would have been very good, but very sad.

Luthien: I wish he'd warm up to you more. He's very stubborn sometimes.

Luthien: Most of the time, actually.

Nadiyah: I do not blame him. I do not apologize for what I came here to do. *stubborn look*

Luthien: I understand. Believe me.

Nadiyah: *glancing over, unreadable* Him or me?

Luthien: Both. I can understand the need for revenge when one you love has been killed. And I understand wanting to protect those you love and not trusting any who would wish to harm them.

Nadiyah: *nodding slowly, comfortable with the answer* Thank you. He lets Halbarad serve and I serve through Halbarad. And I am yours, Lady.

Luthien: All I ask of you is friendship, Nadiyah.

Nadiyah: *confused* You have that. But I am also yours. *embarrassed* Thought right now I am not as useful as usual.

Luthien: You just worry about taking care of your child. I think he's hungry.

Nadiyah: He probably is. He always is! *takes him back and settles in for a feeding, totally unselfconscious* What do YOU see out that window, Lady?

Luthien: Endless possibility. So much potential in the people and the city. There's so much to do.

Nadiyah: *rocking the baby absently* Then we will do it. :)

Luthien: *smiles* That we will, mellon-nin. That we will.
