I told my short stories class today that I didn't like my (gay, whiny, bitchy) protagonist, and I mentioned that I wanted to kill him off at the end of my story (but I didn't - he lived). I think they might think I'm a homophobe now. Apparently, the character was sympathetic to *someone* - but definitely not to me, heh

it's so funny how you make a single comment and that becomes your identity. when i taught i used to tell my classes that i didn't want to hear them calling each other "fags" or using that or "gay" as a slur or they would be out of my classroom. somehow that translated to me coming out to my class and i was hauled to the principal's office for it and questioned about my judgment for coming out as i did.
