Brendon didn’t care if there was a mother pushing her baby down the street, a school bus bringing kids home, an elderly man crossing the road; he was treating the road just like it was his own. He walked where he wanted, he crossed on his own terms. Because right now at that was important to him was Ryan. So he J-walked, sue him.
Getting to the entrance of the park, Brendon didn’t even wait before taking off into the woods. He walked for a few minutes looking around, spinning a few times hoping that Ryan was just too distressed to notice that he was right near the edge of the patch. Not to Brendon’s luck, Ryan was not in sight. He walked further in and began screaming his name.
“Ryan! It’s Brendon. If you can hear me, make a noise!” He held his breath hoping that he would hear something. The only sound reaching his ear was the whistling of the leaves in the trees. As he walked the branches snapped as he broke them into pieces. “Ryan! Where are you!?”
No matter what time it was, Brendon always found the woods to be the creepiest place to be. It could be the brightest day, but if you were in there not one inch of sunlight was going to get to you. Not that anyone came there to sunbath. But the cold gave it an eerie feeling. The trees always seemed to muffle everything, any scream for help was lost to the roots and any chance of running was paralyzed by the branches hanging everywhere like vines on a wall. You always see it in movies. Some one runs in there to get away from an axe murderer and ends up getting eaten by a wolf. Nothing ever comes out of running into the woods. With that thought in mind Brendon started screaming louder and running further in.
Panic was starting to settle in. He had been out there for at least thirty minutes and the closest thing that he had found that was alive was a fox, which Brendon will admit, made him scream like a little girl. Brendon bit into his lip then screamed again, his voice was becoming scratchy and Brendon knew his throat would hurt in the morning.
With a sudden thought, Brendon pulled out his cell phone and quickly dialed Ryan’s number. He hoped that he would be able to hear the ring tone and be able to follow it to Ryan; he wasn’t really expecting Ryan to pick it up.
“Ryan where are you?!” Brendon said in a rush.
“They have me Brendon. Brendon-“
“Who has you?” Brendon questioned. This was getting all too serious and Brendon felt like he was going to pass out.
“My step-parents. I’m at my house, they found me out there. Just go home Brendon. I’m sorry for dragging you out there. I’m sorry for being a pain.”
“Ryan you’re not a pain. I’m coming to get you. Where do you live?”
“Brendon it’s not safe. Please don’t come,” Ryan pleaded.
“Ryan when I asked you to be my boyfriend, I promised you that I would keep you safe. Cleary I haven’t done something right if we are in this situation, but now is not the time. Tell me where you live; I’m coming to get you.”
Ryan was silent till Brendon heard quiet sobs coming from the other end. “Breeds Road near the end where the corner store is. Please don’t go to the front door. Go around the left side, there is a little window near the bottom of the foundation.” In the background Brendon could hear the sound of a door knob giggling and shouting. “Quick Brendon.” And Ryan hung up the phone.
Brendon began dashing in the way he came, hoping that he wouldn’t run in circle. He heard Ryan, he need to be quick. And quick is what he was going to be.
Once out of the woods he hurried his way through the streets. Cars beeped at him as he ran, but he wasn’t paying attention to them. Once he reached the corner store, he could see the house that Ryan was talking about. From the outside it looked perfect, but Brendon knew that what was happening in the inside did not reflect the outside.
