Had you read both authors? I had only Chandler and never read such writer, which is so beautiful, exciting, intelligent and at the same time simply describing even a knight, but in the realities of American society.

I looked at a Hammett book, and stuck with Chandler. I think Hammett has a more old-fashion feel. I don't think you have to feel cheated. Ellroy has his own opinions about things that can be off-beat.

Then I should try Hammett's book to see, I am stuck now with the Fall of Hyperion fantasy, it is so huge and I am in the middle of nowhere, it is sad to stop reading and boring to go ahead...
