Character Name: Guy Cecil [ Gailardia Galan Gardios ]
Point Taken At: After the battle with Van at the Absorption Gate.
History:
Guy Cecil was originally Gailardia Galan of the House of Count Gardios of Malkuth. He was the younger sibling of Marybelle Radan, and is half-Kimlascan from his mother's side [ Eugienie Cecille ]. As a result of the Hod War, the event which ended with the island of Hod sinking into its destruction in the Qliphoth and the whole House of Count Gardios being slaughtered by Duke Fabre and his men, Gailardia took on the name of Guy Cecil and, together with his servant Pere, came to Baticul, Kimlasca in order to find employment in Duke Fabre's household. He did so with the hopes of one day returning to Duke Fabre the grief and destruction he had brought down to him, his whole family, and servants.
The desire for revenge did abate as the years went by, an occurrence that may have been made possible by his friendship with Luke fon Fabre and the Kimlascan Princess, Natalia. With this, he was able to see the goodness in Kimlasca-Lanvaldear and, perhaps, have second thoughts about his vengeful plans. At the very least, in a way that an action would bring great sorrow for his newfound friends.
Eventually, over the course of the game, Guy finds a sort of closure for his issues connected to the massacre of his family, and also finds himself fighting an old servant and friend.

Abilities & Physical Abnormalities:
It's worth noting that Guy comes from a world with a different set of scientific laws. To begin with, for example, the Auldrant Calendar is at least twice the length of the Gregorian Calendar, possessing a whooping 758 normal twenty-four hour days in one year. This implies that despite going through more than twice the number of days in a year as we normally do, their aging seems to follow a normal pace if one were to base it on the years. In layman's terms, Guy and his Auldranti kind would theoretically age slower than someone from the FF8 world or the Earth world. Also, on a slightly relevant matter, Guy's body, as with all people from Auldrant, is made up of fonons and possesses fon slots to take in said fonons. Fonons and fonslots are basically what allows a normal Auldranti being the ability to use fonic artes [ magic ] and strike artes [ swordsmanship fused with some elemental damage etc. ].
That aside and in terms of abilities, Guy is a very skilled swordsman in the Sigmund-Style and, as with all Tales of fighters, can dish out some powerful, elements-infused strike artes. He's also very knowledgeable in fontech machinery, in fact, he's something of a fontech machinery nut.
Personality:
[ v. 1 ]
Guy is an all around nice guy, basically. He's friendly, easygoing, helpful, and tends to have a good word or two for anyone who needs cheering up. This translates to smooth-talk to the ladies, but Guy vehemently insists that the "smooth talk" is just him saying things as he sees/thinks them. He's honest as well, and loyal, which is a strange trait to associate with him when his past is taken into account, but it's also very true for him. Despite his obvious resentment towards the House Fabre, Guy genuinely is a loyal friend and servant to Luke fon Fabre. Asch, however, is a whole different matter, despite being the original Luke fon Fabre.
On the darker side of things, Guy can be very abrasive, and is certainly capable of a great deal of hatred and anger, especially when the matter is close to his heart. The massacre of the House of Count Gardios is obviously a subject that pushes him to the edge here and there; it's a touchy subject and as much as he might talk lightly about it [ see paragraph 1, Guy is an all around nice guy ], it's still very much a wound that hasn't quite healed. There's also that care he has for his friends that can take a raw form, shall we say. Much later in the game, for example, he finds out that Luke is willing to die with thousands of replicas in order to deal with the miasma problem the whole Auldrant is suffering from and he briefly allows that "nice guy" mask to slip as he tells Luke that he shouldn't have to do it. Guy is normally levelheaded, pragmatic in a sense, and able to agree with Tear and Jade when it comes to their more objectified way of looking at things [ read; cold-hearted ]... but when it comes to his friends, especially Luke who he cares greatly about, he does tend to lose that levelheadedness in favor of being more emotionally driven, albeit for a short while. He does allow Luke to go through that plan later on, reluctantly.
Finally, Guy has a certain quirk. He has gynophobia. He likes women, looking at them and the whole works, but his body just doesn't quite follow that. This was brought on by the trauma of having his sister and many of the female servants die on top of him, as they literally laid down their lives to protect his. Recovering his memory from that time certainly helped alleviate the severity of his gynophobia, somewhat. However, as it was very much a part of him for most of his life, it's likely not going to go away for a while. Of course, the truth set him free, so that means that he's not going to be jumping so far away next time a girl tries to step in too close. So far away, anyway.
[ v. 2 ]
Guy is an easygoing young man, or at least he appears to be at first glance. This trait isn't one borne from laziness though, or naivete; it's something that naturally comes after a confidence that only came to be as a result of his life experiences.
The Hod War, the desire for vengeance against House Fabre for the massacre of Hod and its people pushed Guy, Gailardia, to become a skilled swordsman in the Sigmund-style swordsmanship, and someone who understands the harsh realities of life quite well. This is where that confidence begins, but it ends in Luke, the replica, and the feelings of loyalty, friendship, and brotherhood Guy learns to feel towards the Duke Fabre, his enemy's own son. These two things have helped to shape Guy into someone who can be easygoing for the sake of being a pillar for his friends to lean on in times of danger and rest, and at the same time be serious when required in order to knock some sense into Luke [1], or to offer a sound reassurance to Natalia when she had her doubts [2].
Deviating from that a bit, Guy is someone who somehow knows the right words to say; sweet-talk people, especially the women, if you will. It's something he claims isn't intentional either as he just means to say the truth as he sees it. It's a double-edged sword for him, as while it really does help his friends when they need an encouraging word or two, it means he has women trying to get closer to him here and there. Of course, that's not good with his gynophobia still very much present.
As mentioned earlier, he is truthful and, like Jade, can be blunt about things if he has to be. Unlike the Malkuthian Colonel, however, Guy rarely takes the blunt path in spite. He resorts to it when he thinks it's appropriate and doesn't particularly enjoy skirting around issues. ( He's truthful about his distrust towards Asch on the get-go, even when the rest of the party very clearly preferred him over Luke after Akzeriuth's fall, for example, and Guy could very well have gone back to Luke's side with just an excuse that he's worried about "the idiot" moping.) This truthfulness, coupled with Guy's sharp perception, means that he tends to be quick to point out what's wrong with people around him to get people to notice. On the crossing of the Inista Marsh, Guy alerts Jade when he notices Natalia's exhaustion, and he does this knowing full well that the sooner they get out of the marsh, the better. ( Natalia's well-being was his priority ) Also, later on, after Luke accuses Tear of being cold-hearted after the massacre at Sheridan, Guy is quick to note to Luke that Tear's eyes were welling up, and that Tear was very likely feeling more miserable than she let on.
In addition to all of this, Guy can be playful, especially towards Luke, and has a pretty healthy sense of humor [3]. He's also down-to-earth, as a result of having spent most of his life as a servant of House Fabre, and even after being granted back his title as a member of the House of Count Gardios, this humility remains and he allows himself to be ordered around still without so much as a grumble. You can say he's grown used to being humble all of his life so being granted a new life as a noble has little bearing on him. He's driven to help, and the strength of this conviction is what helps/helped him overcome his gynophobia in several occasions ( most notably, when Anise nearly fell off the cliff at Tataroo Valley while chasing an elusive, and expensive, butterfly ). He also doesn't mind explaining for Jade or anyone else; this is probably because of his ardent love for fontech machinery. Known to be a bit carried away while talking about "fontech buffs" related topics, explaining things that require the same level of detail as fontech machinery is probably something enjoyable for him. He says otherwise, of course, but actions speak louder than words and he's the go-to when it comes to explaining things to people.
And finally, a little bit of a note with regards to his relationship with Luke: Luke fon Fabre, the replica, is someone important to Guy. It's hard to describe the depth of his devotion towards Luke, and how it even came to be because so many things are stacked against the likelihood of such a relationship happening normally. Luke is the son of the man who slaughtered Guy's family while laughing, something Guy is quoted as saying at one point in the game. And yet, despite that, Guy is able to go back to Luke's side, stand by the youth after the tragedy of Akzeriuth when almost everybody chose not to. It's arguable that it's out of pity that Guy does this ( since after Akzeriuth, Guy also finds out that Luke is a replica ) but his words on the deck of the Tartarus before finding out this truth was "Don't make me think any lesser of you, Luke" and it implies that while he was angry then, he didn't quite think Luke was beyond redeemable. It wasn't a statement that implies cut-off then and there, which says a lot when you take into account that Luke had inadvertently caused the deaths of thousands of people in a blink of an eye and refused to take responsibility for it.
In a way, Guy probably sees Luke as something close to family. He trusts Luke just as much as Luke trusts him. It goes both ways. If Luke got into trouble and Guy knew it wasn't Luke's fault, he's sure to be there doing what he can to help Luke. And if it's trouble Luke brought onto himself, Guy wouldn't necessarily cover for him, but he'd be there beside him helping him.
In summary, Guy is an all around cool guy. The Amazing Guy Cecil. ♥
[1] - Guy constantly reassures Luke throughout the game of how he'll always be there, especially after the fall of Akzeriuth and the revelation that Luke is, in fact, a replica. Later on, whenever Luke dwells on his unimportance and unworthiness because he's a replica and because of how he'd had a hand in the destruction of Akzeriuth ( and everything else, "The Score deviated from its path because of meee" "Asch should be with his parenttts, I don't belooong heeeree" "My daddy killed your family Guuuy, why are you with meee! You hateee meee!" /paraphrased ), Guy is there to scold him. At one time, he bluntly tells Luke that talking like that is "irritating" and reminds him of where he stands with Luke, as a friend.
[2] - Shortly after Natalia is exiled from Kimlasca-Lanvaldear for being, supposedly, an imposter and ursuper to the original Princess Natalia, and after being rejected by her father, the King, Guy assures her that she'll have somewhere to go. "If His Majesty insists on rejecting you, then come with me to Malkuth. I'd welcome you with open arms." He said that with a serious and very straight face.
[3] - Playful, as in, Guy tends to tease Luke. He's teased Luke about his height, his whining, the fact that if he were a prince he'd probably live a cushy life, and other things throughout the game. Very much like an older brother does.
