shouldn’t we be able to trust mental facilities to at least do their best to help the ill?

it seems the D.C. area isn't the only place where the mental health system has turned into a fucking joke. These professionals have a responsibility to their best to help, to check on past records of patients and look to use therapy and medication based on what's best for the patient and what's already been tried. I will be the first to admit that I am not an expert on this, but having a number of friends who are either nurses and have worked at area mental health facilities, or people who have been patients in mental health facilities, as well as a friend who is studying to be a therapist has given me some perspective on this. All of them have said the same thing you are: that facilities need to consider past treatments, failures and successes in order to best help people, and that the complete lack of regard for other institutions work (as well as arrogance that their special method will work better then whatever has been tried or considered) makes people worse. That the lack of consistent communication screws over the people they are trying to help. I know when my mother was dying of cancer, my family and relatives had to be with her at all time to stop people at a top-of-the-line hospital from screwing up her medications and such. If a mentally healthy adult woman was unable to insure that proper care was given to her by herself, how can ( ... )

I think the story simply implied all of them were awful, but the private facility may have been slightly cleaner and didn't let other patients beat the shit out of her.

but yep. from personal experiences of my own also, the facilities are a fucking joke.
