HT100 Challenge 132 - Women of Oz - A Welcome Reunion
I had this idea for a rarepair a while ago and decided to write it up for this challenge.
Stella Coffo/Sister Peter Marie (past relationship implied)
Stella was in the break room, reaching for the coffee pot. It was her first day and she found that caffeine actually helped to steady her nerves.
“You might not want to drink that. Some of the guys around here make it the consistency of motor oil.” The woman who spoke sounded friendly enough and hadn’t questioned Stella’s presence in the room.
“And it tastes like it too, I bet,” Stella said, turning in the direction of the voice. “Hi, I’m- Marie?”
It took a moment for recognition to register in the other woman’s eyes. “Stella? Stella Rubin?”
“Stella Coffo, now. I got married. He’s been gone a while now.”
“Mine too. And then I got involved in something a little more complicated.”
“You could have had that thirty or so years ago if either of us were more daring.”
Marie shook her head. “It wasn’t that sort of complicated. I go by ‘Peter Marie’ now.”
“Like that awful nun that ran our dorm?” Stella’s eyes fell on the cross around Marie’s neck. “Oh my God.”
“If I had a ruler, I might slap your wrist for that.”
“If you had a ruler, I might let you. Did I just say that? Oh my God, I’m terrible. I see you and my censor completely disappears. I’m going to go make my way back to the library.”
“Come back in fifteen minutes and there’ll be a fresh pot of coffee.”
“You’re a lifesaver.”
“I’m just me. Stella?”
“Yeah?”
“Welcome to Oz.”
