I suppose the positive thing about formality is that it is so hard to upkeep-it tends to disintegrate almost immediately. I've always hated weddings and funerals.

My whole aversion to this could be that I am from the southwest. The people I know from the west coast, and particularly from the east coast, are so much more formal than what I grew up with. They wear dress shoes. Ties. Make-up. And they all seem to jump at the chance to give a speech or a toast. To have meetings. It's all so foreign to me.

Hi...I know you haven't used LJ in awhile, but I wanted to let you know that it was good to see you Sunday! I'm glad you are doing well. I think about you a lot and every August I send good birthday vibes your way! Take care!

Birthday vibes back at you!
I didn't end up going back to see your dad's carvings- the heat was just killing me, so we decided to leave. I do remember seeing a couple of booths with train carvings and liked them. Does he have pictures up on the web somewhere? I think he may have been next to the Designs by Ricker booth, where Chris works(and for whom the above post is about...). Did you happen to see the Golden Spike train they had? That was Chris's baby(and I helped a little).

You have a beautiful family. I like what you've written about them on your lj, it's one of the more sincere lj's I've read in a long, long while.

E-mail me if you ever feel inclined. I'm terribly inconsistent with the staying-in-touch thing, though :/

we've been watching this show, "six feet under" (mostly takes place in a funeral home), so it was weird to read this. you say "some blank but trying to look sad". i love that observation. you have written the most poetic and beautiful description of a funeral.

Thanks!

Six feet under... I've heard the name, but haven't seen the show. Is it on cable? I only get the normal channels, and half of those don't come in clear enough to bother watching.
