so, there were fireworks on the drillfield tonight which i watched from my study lounge. they were very beautiful, but i was unpleasantly reminded of the attack on baghdad. the sounds were reminiscent of the artillery, with crackling and popping light points interspersed with deep booms

yeah i find that war-happy "get the gas, kick their ass", anti-iraq attitude a bit disturbing. people seem to forget the whole "we're fighting for the iraqis" thing. if you're anti-iraq, you're missing the point of the war.

I'd like to say that I'd never hear language like that on my campus - but that's only because the students here tend not to use the f word (or any other form of profanity besides 'oh my heck').

one of the first things that made me realize i wasn't at tj anymore was the large amount of posters right when i got to mit saying "fuck manditory"
just to make sure the new frosh knew that some of the orientation events were silly, and should be replaced by actually trying to figure out where to live.
just strikes me as part of the huge difference between colleges.

Yes. I could name quite a few more differences between my college and many others. But my college is also rather um.. unique(?) (Mormon, all things related to being Mormon, more things about Utah Mormon culture than you ever knew before (Jell-o anyone?), Rabbit-like Mormon families everywhere, Pretty Mountains, etc. )
