It's hard to believe that in just one more day The X-Files revival mini-series will begin. After the debacle of the 2008 movie, I never thought we'd get to see Mulder and Scully on screen again, let alone get six new episodes. While we're waiting, I thought it would be fun to come up with some new story ideas for the community. Let's post prompts

Diana Fowley, the lost years (after she left for Berlin and before she returned in "The End")

Winter in the city is drab and grey. The snow whirls around her as she walks, head down, hood pulled up, tracing streets at once familiar and alien. She concentrates on the silver huffs of breath that puff from beneath her scarf as she covers the cobbled ground. One, two, three steps; in, out, in, out.

She walks every day, past bäckereien selling hot bratapfel and coffee, leaving her rented room before her landlady wakes and asks her, in broken English, where she is working today.

She is working, of a sort. She is working on the language, consonants harsh in the back of her throat. She is working on feeling alive, even if the bitter wind scraping her skin raw is the only thing that makes her feel. She is working on forgetting him.

Her new assignment will start soon. Come the new year she will be in another suit, another office. She will have mastered the language; remember to smile; find another lover.

Come the new year she will have forgotten him.

I love the little details that evoke winter in Berlin and how it mirrors her frame of mind after leaving him.
