life changes

So today is the 500th day of me quitting smoking. It actually doesn't bother me so much that I keep active track of it, but I keep a widget on my desktop that tells me so. It's a good way of giving me a sense of passive achievement ( Read more... )

Well it looks like they're saying in the study that they can't swear whether it's diet soda or something else in the lives of diet soda drinkers. That said, switching to coffee and weaning yourself down to less sugar in it would probably be better. I'd also recommend the cold brew iced tea bags - just throw them in a carafe in the fridge and you have iced tea in a bit - since once it's summer you're going to miss the coldness of soda.

As far as the former, I definitely caught that and agree, but I also know that this is a factor I haven't isolated and eliminated yet, so I'm considering this a thoughtful experiment too.

And tea definitely sounds good. I may need to buy a pitcher. :) Also, vitamin water and the like. I know that a lot of fruit juices are high in sugar too, but I'd like to explore those as well. I definitely miss Ocean Spray cranberry juice, but I know that's REALLY high in sugar.

There's someone - maybe tropicana, that makes bottled water with just a splash of juice, they're pretty tasty. If you stick to juice that's naturally sweet, it probably has less added sugar too, I'd guess.

The tea thing has been a life saver. We basically gave up soda a few years ago, and between the two of us we probably drink a pitcher of tea a day. It's also a lot cheaper than sodas.

you know what I'm going to say.

Get the hell off of all soda. You really DON'T need it.
Enjoy your coffee with REAL sugar (ie: Sugar in the raw, or the like.
And remember that you've trained your body to 'need' so much caffeine...and as you've found with cigarettes, you're very good at teaching your body to not need superfluous things...and extra sugar/caffeine is definitely superfluous.
and ::hugs:: and you're gay. and loose.

For years, I drank one regular Coke everyday. There would come a point, around 1:00 PM, where I would totally crave it. But in May, I finally decided to cut back, and now I only have a Coke about once a month. At first, I thought I was going to go insane, but you really get used to it. Now I can't even imagine drinking one everyday.

You can do it!
