He stares at the lonely backview of the man in the balcony, not surprised that the older man is still up at this hour. Insomnia had become a habit for both of them, all of them.
Hey, he joins the older man, elbows propped on the railing and barely grazing the other man’s. The metal is cool to touch, and Junsu wonders if it was always this cold.
Hey, Jaejoong replies, eyes trained on nothing in particular.
Junsu spends the next minute staring at the burnt end of the cancer stick between the older man’s fingers, eyes tracing the smoke that rises higher and higher, above their heads and then slowly disappears.
Hey.
Hmm?
How’s your new drama coming along.
Not bad.
Oh. Good to hear. The words escape his mouth before Junsu knows what he was saying. They don’t mean anything.
Hey. Junsu’s voice cracks. He wonders how long they’ve been standing in silence.
Hmm?
Where do we go from here.
Wherever life takes us. Jaejoong shrugs, words barely hiding the uncertainty in his voice. He’s not sure about a lot of things anymore.
Hey. Jaejoong stubs out the remains of the cigarette on the metal before letting it slip from his fingers.
Hmm?
Sing me that song in your new single.
Junsu lets his mind wander to the cigarette below before muttering a soft ok.
And when the first note escapes Junsu’s lips, Jaejoong shuts his eyes and allows his heart to sing the harmony again. A small smile creeps onto his face and he thinks that maybe, maybe he can live with his own answer.
Because some things never change.
