He doesn’t know when it happened. He thought they were running at the same pace, chasing the same dream. But by the time he realized, Yoseob is already ahead, way ahead of him.
Yoseob is always pushing himself, always running, run run run. It takes a toll on his body and Junhyung is worried. He wants to pull him back, wants him to slow down (wait for me), wants to hold him close and tell him it’s okay to walk, it’s okay to rest.
So whenever he has the chance, he holds on to the vocalist. He hopes his actions would keep Yoseob healthy, keep him safe, keep him close to him.
And Yoseob does lean in to the touches, to the comfort. But there was one other thing that Junhyung learnt, Yoseob never stays.
Junhyung is reminded of the time when he was still a boy. He caught a bird, tried to hold it, tried to keep it safe in his hands (stay with me). But the second he opened them, the bird flew away. It never stayed.
That’s when Junhyung realized, Yoseob is not running anymore, he’s flying.
He’s soaring to places higher than Junhyung can ever reach, soaring further from Junhyung’s reach. Junhyung tries to catch up, tries to run and sprint, but Yoseob is still out of reach. Junhyung doesn’t have wings.
He’s tired. He’s tired of chasing after Yoseob, tired of being left behind. So he stops running. He stops seeing the signs.
When Yoseob collapsed due to exhaustion, the rapper wanted to kick himself. He should have seen it, should have been there to catch the fall. So he promises himself that he’ll run. Only this time, he’ll not chase after the bird, he’ll follow it. As long as he keeps it in sight, he thinks he’s satisfied (it’s okay to fly).
He still tries to hold him close, tries to hold him down. But when the vocalist walks away again, he still feels the disappointment. He wonders if he’d ever be satisfied.
They’re on the same couch, side by side, but Junhyung still feels that Yoseob is out of reach. Only when Yoseob dozes off and lies on his shoulder, he finally understands. Even if Yoseob wakes up and walks away, it’s okay (I’ll wait for you).
It’s okay because Yoseob may fly, Yoseob may never stay,
but he always always comes back.
