I just read the blog on the BBC website by the producer. She said that they made a major plot decision about the dead line because JB was hardly available, hence the convenient coma. I think this has served us well as no doubt it explains GDL getting so much air time.

God, I love Gareth's audio work.

He is so talented with his voice. I get chills every time I listen to him read Lovecraft's "The Nameless City".
