What a totally awesome kick-ass event.
Initially, I hadn't planned to go because hotels are 'spensive, and it's the after-party that's really the fun part of 12th night. But then
marionred 's Pearl notification came across the list (resulting in an almost immediate reply/request/demand on my part to do her scroll), and the laurel said she had a hotel room, and I ended up going after all.
I had to borrow Italian garb from Lucia in order to not go naked, as strangely enough, none of my garb was cut to fit maternity-wear, and the two Italians I have will no longer accommodate my steadily increasing chest size. (
foklens is convinced my being pregnant is the best thing ever.) The scroll got finished around 2 am Thursday night, as we were leaving Friday night, and it did look pretty spiffy, even if I did say so myself.
We departed my house, managing to forget both my documentation, AND
luciab 's purse. Luckily, apprentice seester was day-tripping, and was able to stop by the house and grab both things morning of. Unfortunately the car apprentice seester was driving in broke down. This meant Lucia couldn't troll in because her card and ID were in the purse, until they arrived. This was much the suck.
Achbar, Brig, and *surprise!* Tegan were all put on vigil in the first court. Her Majesty Brianna had the stomach flu, and I can't imagine what sort of fortitude she drew upon to be there that day, but it was very inspiring. They were also wonderfully communicative about their schedule for the day, and their desire to get Marion's scroll signed, as well as very willing to allow me to enter it in the Tempore Atlantia competition. Which was super awesome,as they would have been well within their rights NOT to allow me to do so, as it was a "pending" scroll.
I wandered up to Achbar's vigil, and signed his book, and Brig's vigil, and signed her book, and Tegan's vigil, which was so full of people I couldn't even find the book. As it was, the scroll signing got delayed until after second court, when it was awarded. Marion's face was SO awesome. And she was nice enough to let me put it back into the TA competition.
There was much hanging out after court. About the only thing I was minorly sad about was that I only got to hand out a couple things of cocoa, but given that I was running back and forth and around the buildings like a three-year-old snorting pixie sticks, it was my own fault. Lots and lots of lovely scribal entries in all the competitions. (I had pondered entering the backlog competition, as I have *mumblemumblelots* to choose from, but current court business got precedence.)
I was also squeeful to see Merwenna's parchment / glair / hand-made pigments piece. It was absolutely gorgeous.
spyderbug 's display was also made of awesome and gorgeousness. I could only wish my painting had improved that fast. Damn yo. Darn talented people.
Wonderful moments:
Mistress Isobel (
attack_laurel ) made a specific point of finding me after judging the Tempore competition and giving me a ring off her finger as a token of her appreciation for my work. I've been wearing it for two days straight. Sunniva and I are agreed that it's one of the coolest things ever when you get a token that someone takes off their person and gives to you.
I will admit that I was very proud of that piece. It's one of those pieces where I can definitely tell that I'm getting better, and it's become one of my new favorites, but having that opinion confirmed by unbiased sources is always an exhilirating feeling. :D
I won Tempore Atlantia! Woo! Surprise to me, because there were some fantastic entries. :D I won a beautiful knit bag (I've lusted after them for years.) that I'm planning to sew a liner into to keep it from getting torn up. I wouldn't mind advice from knitters on the best way to do this.
Watching the various peerage ceremonies. I always get sniffly at Peerage ceremonies. (Totally wondering if Sinclair did his own calligraphy, btw.)
Feast. Nom nom FEAST. The salmon was delicious, the pickled apples were amazing, the beef and lamb were to die for, and the chicken pie was AMAZING. Absolutely delightful.
Bardic circle!
All in all, it was just a wonderful awesome day.
