of course swedish would be a piece of cake for you to learn. after all we share quite a few words, without any previous knowladge of swedish you easily recognise words som man, hand, finger. with some help (or not) also hund, katt, bok.
but hey, you an sami can both learn swedish, it's not awfully useless in helsingfors!

And yes, Finnish must be one of the most devious languages in the world. The words have a tendency to get ridiculously long. Even I find it easier to say some things in english...

He believes it's hard because of all the slang. I say that slang is not that difficult to conquer, because for the most part, written English is IDENTICAL to spoken English (unless you're talking to some black man from the ghetto, but then he's just speaking ebonics). My experience with Finnish has taught me that WRITTEN Finnish is no where NEAR similar to the spoken Finnish. It's all screwy. :)

Usually they are only successful in eliminating one syllable, so what's the point? ;)
