This is quite possibly my favorite thing The Onion has ever done. No, seriously.

Poll: Bullshit Is Most Important Issue For 2008 VotersDear everyone: WHO THE FUCK CARES IF OBAMA WEARS A FUCKING FLAG PIN? Obviously he's isn't patriotic, I mean, seriously. It doesn't matter if you're running for fucking president - THAT PIN IS WHAT MATTERS WHEN ( Read more... )

Generally I'm out of the private life and matters of politicians. I don't care if someone had a herion addiction 20 years ago. To us youth, that kind of stuff is experience that is more relevant to life, being one of the hundred million uninsured folks scraping by in bullshit jobs. Integrity is another thing. I'm not saying any particular candidate here is spotless, it ALL depends on how they handle what the press and fact checkers throw at them. Are they up front, do they spin it, deny and then own up under pressure?

A lot of it comes to the role of the media not knowing it's place and catering to sellable interests, thus the merge of pop culture and news. Integrity in action is better than subjetive morality.

Interestingly enough, that's been pissing me off for forever.

Mom is always telling me, "You can't possibly know what you're talking about when it comes to politics because you don't watch the news!" This is Mom we're talking about, of course, so no matter how many times I tell her, it doesn't get through her head, but I always respond, "That's because if I want to know what's going on in the world I don't want to have to sit through a bunch of shit about celebrities I don't care about before I get a biased and generally unprofessional report on it. I read my news on the internet, kthx." Not that the internet can't be biased, of course - but if I don't like the bias I can always look for another article. :P

I tend to think that the illegitimate pregnancy/shotgun wedding/sham marriage thing going on with Bristol is a pretty serious matter in light of Palin's support of abstinence-only sex education.

I tend to think that it's none of our business, really. Those who are for abstinence-only sex-ed have probably all seen examples of it failing, and it doesn't seem to be changing their minds. Those who are against it laugh at it anyway.

And I feel that if she's going to use the shotgun wedding to illustrate the triumph of old fashioned values in a modern world, it should be fair game to use her high profile daughter as a highly visible example of the failure of Palin's policies.

There is no doubt in my mind that Bristol's marriage will last exactly as long as her mother wields political power and influence, and that it will be a miserable marriage from start to finish. If Palin wants to hold this up as an ideal, we should certainly attack it.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, then, because I still think it's absolutely none of our business what goes on in her daughter's life.

This reminds me of the commerical that brighthouse is running, about how you should get the facts before voteing. They showed clips on people talking about random reasons they're voteing for whoever.

One guy was like "I herd he likes cats"

DUDE WHICH ONE LIKES CATS? I'M SO VOTING FOR THEM.

I've never seen that commercial - I need to see it. I imagine I'll be in for some laughs that are more to hide my tears. :D

THEY NEVER SAID!

It's a commercial ran by brighthouse, which is basically the comcast of the south east. So I don't think anyone else would show it beyond them. XD;

I can't find the commercial online so I'll try and record it for you. +_+

HUMMM.

Comcast has some weird commercials, too. I'm always like, "Why are you advertising yourself on your own network? We're already paying you, you creeps."

And if you could, that'd be awsm. :D

I'm very interested in Palin's stance on political stuff. I'm not interested in her sex life. @_@;

NO! The issue is that Obama is a secret Muslim who wants to be sworn in on the Koran and force us all to attend a madrassa.

I'm with you... how about some actual policy freaking issues???

It makes me want to scream.

Now, don't get me wrong. It's not to say that these things aren't interesting. (Well, not the flag pin thing.) Drama is something most humans are naturally attracted to. I don't really blame the media for being tempted to report bullshit instead of actual issues because that's what people are actually interested in. I DO blame them for giving into that temptation. :\

Oh, I do blame the media. The sensationalization of all of this trivial bullshit is just infuriating. And yeah, I want to smack Joe Six-Pack upside the head for being interested in the trivial bullshit in the first place... especially when there actually is so much at stake.

I hate the media for giving Joe Six-Pack that crack hit.
