It was like watching a movie. The long days under water, Scott being reduced to atoms, baiting Logan. Like watching a flickering film with no control over the outcome. In the beginning she could break through Phoenix's control but now it felt like she was locked inside her own head.

Every flinch against the iron control and she paid in kind.

She hadn't wanted to hurt Scott but Phoenix was so much stronger, like a tidal wave drowning everything that Jean was. The rage was so overpowering.

Magneto, Charles Xavier. Both trying to get through. She tried so hard to get through for even a second, to be the real Jean instead of the creature of pure emotion that crushed her under its incredible weight. But she was pushed back into the recesses of her mind, an evicted tenant inside herself.

It wasn't meant to be this way, she thought desperately as Xavier disintegrated before her.

I wasn't meant to be his way.....
