So, there's a new category in the
sshg_awards, which just started taking nominations: Finite Incantatem: Best Newly Completed Fic (This category has its own rules. Stories nominated for this category began posting at any time prior to July 21, 2008 but were completed between July 21, 2008 and July 21, 2009Anyone know some candidates I can nominate? (and no,

Maybe I'll remember some once I actually sit down and get to compiling my nominations list.
And I really do agree about authors posting their eligible fics. It's so very helpful.

Particularly at this point if they have any eligible in the above category--ones completed in the eligible year begun before the cut-off date. And as I said, I don't keep track of WIPs below 40k, so believe me, I'll find it very useful if people bring my attention to such fics too.

I wouldn't think any of the SSHG Exchange stories would be eligible for this category though. They're not WIPs--but something posted complete on a specific date, even when they're chaptered fiction--and when you first post is what counts, not later posting on an archive. So something that was posted originally before on the sshg_exchange shouldn't be eligible for that category. Ditto "Contemplations" which was posted 1/20/08 on one day.

Require Your Assistance was begun 2008/03/11 and completed on 2008/08/23--so that fic is indeed eligible in the new category.

I'm going to do a post this morning, but if you think your output was slim for this eligibility period, you'll probably have a good, long laugh at mine. Wow, how much have I sucked it up this past year? I know I've had a lot of personal garbage going on, but still, I feel like SUCH a slacker looking at the list.
But one of the few stories I did write was "Let Nothing You Dismay," so I guess that isn't too terrible. Meh. I'll do better next year, I swear.

Especially if someone has something eligible in that new category--or new author. I think it's hard to find our what's eligible there.
It might be fun if authors also put non-SSHG in the period up too--under a separate cut maybe? I know you play in other ships, and all of us might often be unaware of when our favorite authors play elsewhere. So, you think you actually did worst than me with less than 14,000 words? (I also feel a bit bad because I just looked at the post I did last year, and that was nearly 20k--so I did worst this time)
And yeah, real life matters--it can mess with the muse. But hell, I'd be happy if I produced "Let Nothing You Dismay" this year which I sure as hell will be nominating for Best Short and Best Fluff. So there!

You know, that's not a bad idea, asking people to list the fics they wrote in different ships. I think I'd like to see that. It wouldn't help my count all that much for the year, because in this case, it only amounts to a few hundred words, but I'd really like to know what else my favorite authors have been writing.
And yes, I was worse than you. Much, much worse. I didn't even crack 10,000 words! But I'm already on a better pace for next year, so I'll cross my fingers that nothing major gets in my way.
And you are too kind. :D But I thank you.

That one is always difficult to out the information, and I can imagine it's going to be frustrating for the mods to wean out the many people who'll be mistakenly nominated in the category. Lots of people who just have come to the attention of the fandom this year aren't necessarily "New Authors" in the ship. SilverBirch of The Problem With Purity isn't--ApollinaV of The Gilded Cage isn't--both have stories posted before this cycle. amphotera of Becoming Miss Granger--well, that fic was actually on a long hiatus and was actually started in the previous eligible period. There are a few authors of WIPs I have liked who I think are new--Millie Joan of Camerado and hebe_gb of Limited Knowledge--but neither of their works, alas, have gotten much mention that I've seen.
Basically, the way I did it last year was look at all the authors who had fics I loved--especially more than one, then eliminate all I was sure were old hands, then looked up ( ... )
