Just Saw The Harry Potter Film

And I loved it. Maybe my favorite along with the film adaptation of The Prisoner of Azkaban directed by Alfonso Cuarón--although the only one to make me cry was the film of Goblet of Fire--the reaction of Cedric's father when he finds out his son is dead did me in ( Read more... )

The animation sequence was just absolutely the most incredible surprise ever in this film. I continue to be in utter awe of whatever creative genius created it and whoever developed the idea to begin with and greenlit it. THANK YOU, mysterious producer somewhere out there! I liked your comment on your own post, about what a brilliant solution it was, that made a virtue of a problem--neither live action nor Hermione simply narrating the story would have done as well. It was just so well done. And I too thought of Tim Burton when I saw it.

(Which, btw, is WHY THE 2005 PRIDE AND PREJUDICE WAS SO AWESOME. That and the score. And Jane wasn't ugly. *snicker*)

*gags*

I also get a kick out of her interviews in which she advocates things like Dumbledore/Luna as a ship.

Heh heh. Well, if Dumbles wasn't gay... They actually have a similar way about them---I never thought of that before. That mixture of goofy but wise. (Except Luna isn't evil)

And while you know I do think that Harry and Ginny had chemistry in the book - I've always felt that they had a quiet kinship and understanding that Harry, as a hopeless teenage boy, was just never very good at explaining, but from which he derived immense comfortI never saw that frankly. Oh, and I almost put Neville on the list--but seven seemed such an appropriate number :-) But yes, that tiny moment hit me as just pitch perfect in hinting at what's to come.

The silhouette style of the animated sequence was utterly gorgeous. I love stylized animation more than words can possibly express, and that was an absolutely perfect example of why it works.

The dance scene with Harry and Hermione was awkward, but that was what was so charming about it. It's a nice, silly moment when everyone is at their most miserable. And it did come across as platonic to me, not because there was no chemistry, but because there is the moment when they could kiss and they both walk away from it. Perfect choice of song, there, too.

Also, Draco... Draco, Draco, Draco. I just want to hug him, poor dear. I love him so very much.

And the Snape scene was fantastic.

It was brilliant. Simply watching Hermione narrate it or fading into a live action (or even traditional Disneyesque animation) just wouldn't have worked the way this did.

And it did come across as platonic to me, not because there was no chemistry, but because there is the moment when they could kiss and they both walk away from it.

I was wondering how it was that I could see such a different movie in that scene than others, but that interpretation rather explains why I can see chemistry, even sexual tension, another can see "awkward" and yet another platonic.

Also, Draco... Draco, Draco, Draco. I just want to hug him, poor dear. I love him so very much.I know you do. I don't know that I do exactly. I go back and forth about his character--I don't see him as evil or vicious (unlike his father *cough*) but I don't see him as admirable, nor necessarily sympathetic--it can depend on how you read between the ( ... )
