Hello and welcome to Harmony Podcast 19, this is Misti, thank you so much for joining me today. That song was “I Belong” by Cherie and it was recommended by adarkanddrearyknight in the Harmony podcast website forums.
I know it`s been a while in between podcasts, I`d like to apologise for that. Last month was a combination of not enough recommendations for songs and fan fictions and also the fact that I had to get an epidural injection in my back. So I had to deal with that. Next months Aprils podcast, the special child abuse awareness podcast, that may be later on in the month because on April 10th I have to get another epidural shot but this time in my neck, but we don`t want to talk about that.
A few things I want to talk about before I get to my voicemail question for this podcast that I posted. First of, thank you so much to everybody that called in or emailed me with a comment or response to January`s mini-cast that I put out. The fact that you guys believe in me and your kind words and assurances that`s all I need as long as I know that my listeners know that I believe in the ship and know that I`m dedicated to it that`s all that`s important to me. So thanks a lot for all your responses, they just meant a lot.
Secondly I`m trying to find a place to go for the book release in July. If any of you listening out there live in the San Diego area and you already have planned where you`re going to go for the book release, if you could email me and let me know. It`s
miscard31@hotmail.com I`d really appreciate it because I`m trying to get together a little group of Harry/Hermione shippers so that we can go together and experience this last book release party as a group. I`m going to be recording there, doing some interviews and of course I`ll be there with my Harmony Podcast t-shirt on. You`ll definitely be able to spot me in a crowd [laughs] But you know just so we can share it with others that share our beliefs in shipping and have some fun for this last book release. If you wanna be a part of the group email me as well, I`ll try to get something going here so we can maybe get it arranged hopefully by June you know, and have everything ready to go. Cause I haven`t reserved my copy yet, of the book because simply I don`t know where I`m going to [laughs] for the release yet. My older son and I will be going for that. And the last thing I wanted to talk about was next months podcast, it`s the special National Child Abuse Awareness month podcast like I did last year. I`m trying to make it more special than last years was. The response to last years was just amazing and I`m hoping to get it out to more people this year. What I`d like though, in the forum I created a thread so that listeners could come and write down their stories and then I will read it next month on the podcast. The only thing is, I also need voicemails. I know it`s hard to talk about experiences you`ve had with abuse, but if you feel you`re strong enough and you can do it without triggering anything I`d appreciate it if you could call into the voicemail line. If that`s not enough, what some people have been doing is recording themselves on their computer and then saving the file, sending the file to me and then I`d editing it up and putting it in the podcast. If that`s something you feel you want to do that would be wonderful because me reading the stories is one thing, but you telling it in your own words may just help another abuse victim find the courage to get the help they need. So if you would consider that, it`d be great and who knows you could help someone out of a terrible situation.

What do you think of the Harry/Hermione fandom today and what do you think will happen to our fandom after the last book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, comes out on July 21st? Here`s what you guys had to say,

Hi, I just saw your Live Journal message with the question, what do you think of the Harry/Hermione fandom today and what do you think will happen to the fandom after the last book comes out? And I`ve been writing Harry Potter fan fics… I guess since the fourth book and I`ve been writing Harry/Hermione fics and my screen name is fayevalentine00 And you know when the fifth or sixth book came out I guess I didn`t write for a while because… not that I had a problem with it, it was just you know, I was like maybe I should be writing Harry and Ginny together but you know in my heart I`m like Harry and Hermione need to be together. So I think it was hard when I`m just now starting to get back into the fandom and I think maybe the same thing will happen with the last book. But I think the people who truly have loved the fandom for a long time will come back to it and I think maybe it will slow down. But I think as the main fan base of Harry Potter kinda mellows out from all the teeny bopper kids to all the people who really, really love it. I think it will come back and I think that we`ll have a really strong group regardless of whether it happens in canon. So I think we`re going to have another little valley but I think then we`ll come back and we`ll be doing good. So thanks and good luck with your podcast.

Hello Misti, it`s ladybluestar and I know what you mean a bit with the fandom slowing down, it seems that some days that it seems like there`s just too much to keep track of, cause I help moderate a couple of communities as well but… so there`s some truth in that. Though I think that part of the reason, maybe a lot of us are waiting, you know with the fifth movie coming out and the seventh book… I think a lot of us are kind of you know, we`ve made almost as many theories as we could… you know we know where we stand… but kinda waiting… in some ways waiting for the end. And yeah I think that a lot of things will change after seven, a lot of people will leave they`ll say alright it`s over we don`t care anymore. You`ll get hopefully some sites that we won`t name will implode but you know I think that`ll… a lot of us right now are pretty much looking for the end and kind of you know… after that things will go crazy for a while and then hopefully we`ll settle into kinda comfortable routines where those of us who prefer one ship over the other, whatever, will find some sort of peaceful co-existence. But I don`t know… I think it`s just kinda a quiet time in fandom but I`m sure soon things will get crazy and you know who knows where we`ll all be two, five years from now, how we`ll feel about the ship. But hey it`s fun while we`re here now isn`t it? Alright, looking forward to the next podcast. Bye bye.

Hey Misti it`s Gracie. I was just, I saw your question at harryhermione and I just thought I`d call and help out and try to give a little bit of a thought. Umm what I think of Harry/Hermione fandom today kind of in general, I, to this day I`m still really, really, really proud of how everybody held it together after the sixth book and the interview and all that kind of stuff and even though there was a bit of a backlash that went on for a while which was completely understandable. The fact that so many people where able to you know, go on and have their fan fic and there icons and all that kind of stuff and still read the book and all that with other and be really supportive and really just wonderful within the fandom is something I`m still really proud off. I have noticed it`s gotten somewhat slow lately, but that`s really understandable kinda with all the other fandoms that have popped up and the fact that we are in that space between movies and between books and there`s not a lot of new stuff to discuss as of right now but otherwise you know I still see people with their fantastic fanfic and their icons and all that kind of stuff. So while I think it`s a bit slower now I still think it`s pretty strong and pretty wonderful so, I`m very very happy to be a part of it. Umm and what I think will happen to our fandom after Deathly Hallows, and if I didn`t say that correctly I apologise. I think that`s something that people are a bit worried about and it makes me question sometimes but not to much because I think it is really dependant upon how the ending of the last book is. If it`s completely cut of and every single question answered and every single tie you know bound in this horrible knot, I think it`ll be a little bit harder for some people to try to continue past it or try to establish something else for themselves, um to go on. But if it`s left open or little things are left open then I think we will literally go on forever. [gets cut of] I did that rambling thing again! I know we`re all very used to me I`m sorry I honestly don`t mean to. Um I thing just what I was saying is that if it`s open enough I think we can go on forever like a lot of other fandoms and stuff like that has. And we can create our own future and we can you know, really do what we think the characters would do for ourselves and I… that`s what… so I`m not to worried if the ending is left a little bit open if everything`s really bogged down and really tied down I think it`ll be a little bit harder or a little bit more discouraging for some people. And that`s the only time I really think fandom would come to kind of a halt. Otherwise I think it`ll be okay cause we`re all really strong and really, really adaptable we`ve seen. Again sorry this ran into two voicemails, I`m actually really mortified but I wanted to tell you what I thought and I really appreciate the opportunity to give opinions and stuff like that and I look forward to li… excuse me, listening to what everybody else had to say. Hi Misti, this is Justin also known as adarkanddrearyknight from the Harmony Podcast Forums. Um, I saw your question on the Podcast Homepage and thought I`d give my little thoughts on the matter. My thoughts on fandom, um lately I`ve kinda noticed that the, well especially on Portkey that HHR tends to be really cynical, um very angst and while a lot of people do like angsty fan fiction I`m not really one of them. I get enough angst in my real life, I don`t really need more. Um, you kinda I don`t know, it kinda gets me down how people don`t have hope for the future even though we`ve been faced with this diversity from JKR and other fandom shippers. Um, it just… I don`t know it kinda a let down for how when I look through the different types of summary’s and stuff and it just doesn`t catch my imagination anymore. Um, the thoughts on the fandom after the seventh book comes out, um I think the fandom will continue. Um I hope that it never dies… um… I`d rather not be wrong on that. Me personally I`ve lost faith in JKR and from book 6 while it was a decent read, it still was very lacking for me. Um, and just everything in general from that book. I don`t have any hope for the next book, I`m hoping for the best but you know I`m kinda planning for the worst. Hi Misti, this is ?? and I was calling about the question posted on the Harmony website. Today I think we`ve already seen the major exodus in our ship when Jo made her comments last year. And as for post Deathly Hallows, I think there will still be a core group, there will always be fan fics, videos, forums and so forth for us to enjoy and participate in and that won`t change after Deathly Hallows. In fact there will be even more to discuss and the movies won`t finish until 2010. Also there seems to be more HP related conferences popping up so these will be gathering places for HHR fans as well, as we`ve seen with Phoenix Rising coming up in May. Also I wanted to say I really enjoyed the podcast, Harmonics and HTV included in that. And to say you`re a great encourager to all… both in motivating the ship and modelling for us to be accepting and polite to other ships as well. Hello, this is salamon2 as I`ve been known throughout the harmony fandom. I`m calling to answer the question that Misti put on her website, what do you think of the Harry/Hermione fandom? Currently I think the Harry/Hermione fandom is one that seems to be in hibernation. It doesn`t seem as active as it used to be like when I first joined the Harry/Hermione fandom back… it was… ah I think it was, yes, I think it was December… December after the release of Half Blood Prince. Back then I joined Portkey and it was a very feisty time. There where tonnes of people visiting, there where people arguing all over the place about what… everything meant and all that sort of thing. But how has it changed since then? Well… I think it`s all sort of slowed down and a lot of people have… especially with the out coming of the next book in July, I think… are getting nervous… as to what it is. I mean you still have the die hards on one side saying yes! We will prevail and there`s the other people on the other side who well… they`re like the Chudley Canons, according to JK Rowling they change their minds from we shall conquer to lets just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. Now… what I think the last book will bring, I think it will bring closure to this whole thing. Do I think that Harry and Hermione will get together in it? I think we have a very good chance of doing so… good chance. But bearing in mind that JK Rowling said explicitly… [got cut off]

I`m calling in response to your question for the podcast about what`s going on in the Harry Potter fandom specifically you know within HHR fandom. Basically what I think is going on is everyone’s pretty much already made their decisions about what is going to happen and the final book… um… well lets see, yeah [laughs] basically so what I mean is people who still think there ship is going to happen they`ve pretty much already decided. People who don`t think it stands a chance that’s still just in fandom, um… have already made their decision now so we`re pretty much just verifying um, each others opinions right now. Um, the only sites I really know are active right now, among shippers um specially in our fandom it`s pretty much just Live Journal, Harmony Forever, Portkey and I mean… Harry and Hermione shippers are also still pretty active on emmawatson. My reason why I`m still in it and what`s going on with the fandom is, I`m not really sure I just think that moral’s dropping and everything with the crap that came out with Half Blood Prince and stuff but I keep on trying to keep everybody positive and keep them buzzed about everybody needs to keep positive. Hello this is Lola Hecate from Harmony Podcast Forum. Um I do agree with Misti that the fandom as of right now is kinda slow. But I believe it will increase greatly as we get closer to the release of the seventh book and the fifth movie. I think that the fandom after the book is released will still exist, it might not be as wow as it was before but it will still happen. Cause even though the books are done the movies are still on their way. Plus at least for me Harry Potter has been a life long hobby. I`m not saying that everyone is going to stick with the fandom but some people won`t just throw it away overnight. And plus there`s still fan fictions and fan art and fan videos to watch. So yeah I think um… [laughs] losing words here, I think that the fandom will still exist afterwards. Okay, bye.

Hi Misti this is alphamatrix from New Zealand. Um… I think Harry/Hermione fandom is still really strong. I think most of us are just waiting for July to come around and that`s why we`ve been so quiet lately. Um, I`ve just discovered the alchemy theory so I really think our ship is a lot stronger than I did before. I think we`ll see an upsurge in interest around the time of the Order of the Phoenix movie and again with the release of our last book. But after the last book, well a lot of it depends on the outcome, I mean if it does end up Harry/Hermione which I think it will, we`ll end up with a lot more people in our fandom. I see our fandom staying strong anyway for at least a year after the book comes out. I say a year because, well after the movies and the books finish I think the fandom will end up being a bit quiet, um, just the strong fans staying. I`m really positive about our fandom, I`m really excited about the movie and the final book coming out. I will be one of those people queuing up for the new book. Um, so yeah, keep our ship sailing I think it`s strong.

Hey Misti and all the Harry/Hermione shippers out there. How`re you doing? This is spoonjosh and I bet you`re wondering what do I think of the Harry/Hermione fandom today. Well… that`s a very good question actually because I`ve been a part of this, for what… nearly over a year now which is quite a long time when you think about it. But today I think we`re a bunch of small… we`re a small group of just wonderful people in touch with emotions. The thing I`ve experienced throughout ships and throughout various other and things coming out of the canon Harry Potter is that people really stick to their emotions and our fandom is definitely going to grow after number seven. I think because canon even though it represents a possibility as no ships have been directly… I guess produced through the series. I mean Ginny and Harry could end up together in the books. So… I hope not [laughs] but I`m really looking forward to our fandom blossoming in fan art, fan videos, fan fics and I`m really looking forward to this podcast getting a lot of other members and just really coming out on it`s own, it`s going to be really fantastic. So… keep it alive guys, the main thing about our fandom is that it`s all about possibility the emotional interaction and the enjoyment that we all get out of creating those new and wonderful environments. Keep up the fantastic fanart, fan videos, fan fiction, all that creative content that spawns a love for the Harry Potter world and the Harry/Hermione fandom. So… that`s my thoughts as small minded as they might be, hope you all enjoyed it and good luck and I look forward to seeing as many of you as I can at Phoenix Rising. Hmm, my opinion right. I don’t think this ship is slowly sinking. I rather see the ship sailing on. I just think that everyone is quiet and calm reading or writing fanfics, watching and making videos, updating websites etc etc which is understandable. Though I admit we can’t turn back time when we enjoy speculating how JK Rowling turning the shipping favour on our side. Then for former militants like me, debates is harder these days since it’s pretty hard to explain how we remain faithful in a ship that’s been debunked in cannon. I really don’t understand why they can’t understand that, oh well. Maybe we need to hear another question and answer session of JK Rowling that could bring us to being active in sites again. Or maybe suddenly a hook up on Dan and Emma oh well, many possibilities on how to bring us back to lively shipping. Well, the last book is another thing that can sprung us back to life with or without the favour of cannon in our side. People will always love to discuss why this did or didn’t happen. I think that the gradually decreasing amount of people in fandom is due to a couple of reasons, people are getting tired of Harry Potter. The time in which everybody went and read the books is over and only the hardcore Harry Potter fans are left. Also many may have lost faith in Rowling after the release of Half Blood Prince, many thought that the book was only as good as badly written fan fiction. And finally people are getting older. The target group of the first books were children of my age (at that time). We've all grown up and it's likely that Harry Potter isn't interesting anymore. In addition we all have more important things to do than reading Harry Potter. My free time is very limited at the moment due to final exams, for example. These are just speculations though. I think the last one is the one that’s most believable.

HHR NEWS
Hi everybody; this is Gwen from theAnvilEzine.com, bringing you this month’s Harmonian news.
The most exciting news this week has to be the release of the page count for Deathly Hallows. In a press release from Scholastic on March 20th, the page count is verified to be 784 pages - smack dab in the middle from Half-Blood Prince at 652 pages, and the behemoth Order of the Phoenix at 870. Now, whether or not this also indicates nausea levels, we’ll just have to see. Scholastic also announced that Deathly Hallows will be printed on recycled paper - meaning it will be printed on paper from post-consumer waste fiber. Lisa Holden, president of Scholastic, mentioned that future reprintings of the Harry Potter books will also follow this trend, "As a company with an ongoing commitment to protecting the environment for this generation and generations to come, we believe producing this book and our future reprints of Harry Potter books with a minimum of 30% pcw recycled paper is an important publishing decision." And speaking of Deathly Hallows, Scholastic is going to put out a campaign for DH starting D starting April 17th, and ending July 7th, titled "THERE WILL SOON BE 7"… all in firm CAPSLOCK. Apparently there will a Knight Bus Tour, a 7 questions for HP survey, daily polls, and downloadables and printables on Scholastic.com. It all looks like fun and annoying stuff, so be sure to keep your eye on their website for tour and poll information.
In some movie news - Emma Watson has been the subject of internet rumours that she will not be returning for the last two HP movies. It was originally reported by the website Digital Spy that Watson turned down £2 million per movie in order to pursue other projects. They also have a supposed quote by Rupert Grint, saying that Watson is no longer close to Dan nor himself, "We don't text or talk to her when we are not filming." However, in a battle of the quotes, Warner Bros. released a statement on March 18th saying, "We're extremely confident that Emma will be back for films six and seven." In February Daniel Radcliffe was also the subject of similar rumours - saying that Warner Bros. was so displeased with his choice of theatre work, that they were going to fire him. However - he’s officially signed on for the next two movies, and Rupert Grint has publicly stated that he wants to finish the series. So - what’s keeping Emma? And speaking of the movies, a preview screening of Order of the Phoenix was shown in Chicago on March 3rd. HPANA has a pretty good write-up of it, for those with spoiler-cravings, but the general consensus - with unspeakable websites included - state that the movie appears to be very choppy, while changing quite a bit of book details. However, on the plus side, Evanna Lynch, who plays Luna Lovegood, has been getting rave reviews, along with Daniel Radcliffe’s new acting skills. I will be linking the HPANA spoilers in the show notes, however if you want to wait, OotP will be hitting theatres - and there will be an audible smack, I suppose - on July 13th, 2007.
