So I went to see They Might Be Giants...two weeks ago.
Jonathan Coulton, he of "Still Alive" fame. The song sounded a bit different than I'm used to hearing, but I really enjoyed his stuff, especially the audience participation part of "re: Your Brains."
Then, the Johns took the stage (as well as two Dans and Marty)! I've seen them twice before, but they're still as great as ever.
Linnell leaves his trusty accordion in favor of the synthesizer.
But he was back on the main squeeze before too long.
Guest keyboardist Danny Weinkauf!
Linnell rocking out on the bass clarinet.
For a guy pushing 50, Flans still knows how to bring it. Loads of energy onstage.
It's been 30 years or so since this TMBG was only the Johns. I relished this song.
I was in the wrong part of the crowd, or so I thought...
This couple made Avatars of They costumes, which Flans signed after the show.
And even though I couldn't get a setlist, I did get one of Flans's monogrammed guitar picks.
Oh, and this show was two days before Whitney Houston's death. Their most recent album Album Raises New and Troubling Questions, contains a song called "Marty Beller Mask," in which their drummer Marty Beller is revealed to be Houston. Flans tweeted that they retired the song, so we probably heard it performed for the second-to-last time, which is kind of neat.
