Hooray! More emo-ness!

It occurred to me today that I'm sort of sad that no one is coming to my race tomorrow.  Cody... well, no shocker there. But even my parents will be out of town. My sister is in Israel. Our co-workers won't even be there because a department Karaoke night was scheduled for the same time. Which I think really sucks on the part of the head of the ( Read more... )

I will be thinking of you tomorrow! It sounds to me like you've been doing pretty well in your training - certainly you can run further than I ever could. I haven't jogged for ages, but I remember my knees would complain bitterly if I got up to around 3 miles. :-p

There is no need to feel embarrassed, however you do, as long as you do the best you can. That is all you can ask of yourself, and no one else should expect more.

BTW do you still need help at Origins? I can make myself available for you if you do.

I think it's mega-badass of you to go even without people there in person to cheer for you. You are doing this entirely for yourself and your health, so any way you look at it, you still win! Will be thinking happy thoughts for you tomorrow.

There is a kind of freedom from going on your own. It's just you and the sights and sounds of the race, and the sensation of your own body. There's no expectations to meet, no other consciousness to carry along in the back of your mind. I did my first 10K this way and it was surprisingly enjoyable.

That's not to say you should foreswear a cheering squad in the future... but see what the experience brings you this time.

Madbard makes an excellent point. You have friends who are rooting you on even if they aren't there. You need to put yourself into this race and focus on you. If you like, you can imagine a group of us there at the end, doing various things: some of us will be waving banners, some of us will be screaming ourselves hoarse, some of us will be jumping up and down so excitedly that we hyperventilate and pass out. Some will also jump up and down and realize they peed a little. It's up to you to decide who in your brain does what. :)

Hehe. Thanks hon. Now I will be picturing all my friends peeing themselves with excitement as I cross the finish line. ;op

have fun! i tried jogging in place in the house yesterday(because im afraid to jog in front of actual people) for 4000 steps which google says is about 2 miles. it destroyed me! my calves are bundles of pain and for some reason my ribs are hurting just as much. i gots lots of respect for the fact that you can run for 5 miles and not die or anything ;O)

I haven't had Internet access for awhile, so I just got caught up on your posts.

I wish I lived close enough to attend your race. :( But I will be sending you lots and lots of awesome running energy tomorrow.

As for everything else ... just know that there are lots of us out here who love you, admire you and want good things to happen for you. And if you need to talk, even if you need to talk about anything *but* what's going on, I am just a phone call away, and no matter what time it is, I'll always pick up.

Love you.
