As the risk of p*ssing off devout Christians, and annoying atheists (and if I can get under the skin of both parties with the same statement, I figure I must be doing something *right*), let me suggest that the one being that deserves our greatest and most sincere pity is ..... deity, itself ( Read more... )

That is a really fascinating speculation. It would explain why a deity might take interest in humanity. It would indeed get lonely.

How ironic that, just as much as humans want to attain enlightenment through god realization, god might simply want to be entertained by reaching a human mental state.

I also was thinking about the followers who have died and "gone to heaven". Would this deity not have company then? Or perhaps it is only assumed that you get to meet your deity of choice when you die, but perhaps that isn't the case.

I don't recall the bible ever explicitly stating that you get to meet and converse with god. His son, yes, and you might sit in the glory of god, but maybe not his presence.

Interesting topic, I've been pondering it quite a bit.
