St. Anger 'Round My Neck

Jan 11, 2010 05:25

Yesterday was Tristan's birthday, so my folks and my grandma came up to visit a little bit last night. At one point my dad said, "Oh, I don't think anyone's ever surprised to find out when Teri's angry." Everybody in the room shifted uncomfortably and laughed. Mom said, "Yeah, you step lightly ( Read more... )

What you so eloquently wrote describes me to a T too. I figured my withdrawal reaction was flight. I used to feel like a coward, but I sometimes need days or weeks to figure things out.

I have realized that I'm guilty of interpreting suggestions as personal criticisms, and negative remarks as anger against me. Geeez, why don't I just buy a hair shirt and be done with it? :)

Thanks for making me think so early on a Monday morning.

Teri~Hard to believe Tristan is already 14!!! Hope he had a happy birthday. One of these days, I'll finally make it up there and see you guys in person again. Didn't happen last summer, like I wanted, but isn't that just how life goes? I keep trying to make plans, but I'm kind of wondering if a trip won't happen till two years from now, when Robert has his learner's permit and can help me with the driving. Anyway, I love keeping up with you by reading your posts here. And hang in there in biology. Sounds like you're doing a great job! : ) Ara

Anger truly is a funny emotion. And while I think that the taboo that's attached to it is ridiculous... I can understand where it comes from.

In my own personal experience, anger is usually a mask for some other emotion that I either a) don't yet understand, or b) just haven't taken the two seconds to figure out. I'm the opposite of you, I am very quickly angered. I tend to lash out, not physically, but I become curt, and sometimes say things I don't mean.

But! In becoming a mom, I've learned patience with my anger, and have had to take a step back and look at what's REALLY going on.

I think that people are afraid of feeling anger. You know, that old saying that people are afraid of what they don't understand. I think that's where the taboo comes from. It's just so silly to me.

Oh! And Happy Birthday to Tristan. :D

Actually you had the right comment in class. In science, I believe you have to prove something is true to say it is untrue or vice versa.
