You have to go through and individually edit each entry's "Security" setting to "Friends". Or, if you don't care who reads the old ones, just make every new entry you make's security setting "Friends".
Holy crap, that has got to be some kind of invasion of privacy or something. There must be some rule against that. I would be SO pissed off if it was me.

Live journal is essentially a public forum, unless you customize your posts to be secure. If you get in trouble for opening your mouth about something, it's unfortunate but it's your own fault. There's nothing to research here.
