Thank you so much! So happy you like Tom. I was wondering if I could find a 'voice' for him, but he appears to be writing himself, for the most part. Will be writing lots this weekend: my word count for NaNoWriMo is woefully behind.
Oh, yes. Loved the word, even before JS/JS (MORE PLEASE!!!). When I started writing this in my head awhile back, Tom was just a minor character, but he seems to have developed into a Protagonist. I was wondering too whether I'd be able to write Little Kid effectively, being some years removed from that, but he seems to write pretty much himself. One reviewer on ff.net asked me if four-year-olds were that articulate, and I wish she had an email address listed so I could assure her that mine certainly were.
. . . they're likely retiring to odd corners of the ship to relieve themselves of sundry irksome humours resulting from said eavesdropping. *sputter, cough, cough* Wonderful! tee hee
The next fifteen minutes passed with an agonizing slowness. Aiiiieee - such a horribly long time for Harry, waiting!
Tom's an imp! Tom's an imp! Tom's a delightful, rascally, naughty, gets-himself-in-real-trouble imp!! (you must understand that the preceding is being gleefully sung, whilst the singer is dancing 'round the room)
This fic is the reason I didn't translate nearly enough Bede today!
I am often in that boat myself. RL just goes on the back burner when there's good pirate!fic to read, or I'm in the middle of writing. So sad.
So very happy you are enjoying Tom! When I started this, I wasn't at all sure how successful I'd be at writing him, and really didn't have plans to write this much of him into the story, either. But he had different ideas. I'm enjoying the notion of Jack being thrown for a loop by the idea of being a father. ;)
Good chapter, although I'm still wondering how they dealt with the loss of the baby girl. But perhaps I'll find out later.
Smart little Tom. He's right that if there are dolphins, there will be no sharks. And naps are more to be dreaded than pneumonia.
What a little trouble-maker. I'm sure children are revenge for one's own childhood. Jack probably caused the Lord's own plenty of trouble when he was that age.
Jack makes a good dad. He should, having to command men of assorted ages. Fun to see this.

I think I mentioned that in the third or fourth chapter. The trip to Italy and all.
I can remember objecting to naps when I was little myself, and my older daughter, ladymora stopped taking them at two years old -- just in time for her baby sister, "lj user="weemonkey6"> to come along. Arg.
