okay, so my copy of BBC iplayer, which can't work due to it trying to upgrade my copy of Media player and hence falling foul of MS's software validation dictat, killing off Media player on my machine, has somehow created a whole new partition on one of my drives.

No idea how or on which one. This is confusing me somewhat.
