Birthday Update

So, I guess I have to admit it. I'm old. gah!

at least, I feel old.

it's strange that of all the people who wished me a happy birthday today, none of them were my close friends. I suppose it's true that my friends celebrated my birthday already, but I sort of miss hearing from people I used to be close with who are far far away now ( Read more... )

Happy birthday! Welcome to your twenties. And don't worry -- you have at least five more years until everything starts to go to pot.

As for the distance thing, I think it's just that the friendship changes. Plenty of us have "Home Buddies" -- people who never left the hometown, that we never speak to unless we're planning a visit. They're not friends in the typical sense, but it's still nice to hang out and catch up. We have a history. Just give it a bit of time and you'll get nostalgic for this shit.

You can move on, but the farther away you get from where you come from, the more you kind of begin to realize that where you come from is important, too. And that's what most of moving on is about, and it's a fairly long-term process, and that's why budding relationships generally tank under such circumstances. Which is to say: blame it on the circumstances.
