Not authoratively at all, but the only section which I have not seen claimed as clearly before is the "just as every other business will be" stated in paragraph 7, & implied by comments in paras 5 & 6.

I would love to see a home office minister forced to go through each claim one by one and forced to give an answer, but I can't see it happening.

the compulsion part is true.
Beyond that I don't know. Worth checking though.

Not with any authority, but it does seem to sum up accurately what the government are trying to force through with the ID cards bill. Perosnally I'm hoping the thin grey line (House of Lords) will throw it out again or at least force the whole scheme to be purely voluntary.

There's a lot of assumption and "in principle" there, but it all seems to be at least potentially accurate.

The Lords threw out the "compulsory with passport" aspect again recently, so we'll see where it goes form here. Political ping-pong will ensue.

If it does all happen as the government want, I'd suggest everyone gets passports renewed before the inception date (some time in 2007), which would give ten years before the system collapses (and it almost certainly will), and so you'll never end up getting one.

To make the ID system fail, all it need is a hacker to blow apart the central database. Once the information is compromised just once, the system is by its nature, obsolete and unworkable.

You don't even need a hacker. You just need a sysadmin with a grudge.
