I am vertical, but I would rather be horizontal

I have flu. I haven't had flu in years, and had forgotten quite how vile it is. I spent all of yesterday in bed, apart from the couple of minutes it took me to ring land_girl to cancel our coffee date, and only emerged at one o'clock this afternoon. I seem to have lost three-quarters of a stone since last time I weighed myself, which was less than a week ( Read more... )

Ugh. Sounds miserable. How are you managing with SH? Has he been ill, too?

Hope it doesn't drag on too long and that you're feeling better soon. It's difficult to be sick as it is, but that much worse when someone is depending on you for care.

M has had two days off work - I couldn't have managed, otherwise. SH was a bit confused yesterday when Mummy didn't get out of bed, but they've been out for a long walk and a trip to the park today, so he's happy : )

I seem to have slept through most of it, thankfully. I think I'm in for another early night tonight.

Oh rotten luck. It's well known that mothers can't be ill so it's good that SH copes with it. Hope you feel better soon.

Commiserations. And I've had that rather spooky experience of engaging with the virtual consumptive ward of which I am one part.

It's all very odd. I should probably be in some kind of isolation. I've read more in the last three days than I have in ages, though.

Oh no, I really do hope that you feel better soon.

There has been Big Flu going around my new work. I remain puzzled that I never seem to catch these things. In fact, my biggest worry is that people might think I'm an Apple Mac; although if you've not been to the cinema recently (very likely I would expect, under the circumstances!) and seen the advertisements then you probably won't have a clue what I'm talking about...

I'm a bit better today, but seem to have passed it on to Mr H. Small Hare, naturally, is in the rudest of rude health and is singing his own personal version of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star at the top of his voice, over and over again. Argh.

Sorry you are feeling poorly - get well soon!

I have a query about GCSE revision guides, how much do they differ from year to year, I have recently acquired three english ones for Lettie and was v. chuffed at saving a bit of money, but they clearly state on closer inspection that they are Second editions for exams up to 2005 and in one case 2003 (they are CGP ones Technical Terms, Grammar and Writing Skills).

They should be fine! That part of the exam doesn't change much from year to year - the things they're assessing (composing an argument and writing descriptive prose) stay the same. The CGP guides are good, too, and very clear.

I'd forgotten that this was GCSE year. How's everything going?

Good, thank you.

Life is a bit of a trial for various reasons at the moment, but Lettie does seem to be knuckling down at last, but it may well be a case of too little too late. It is odd, a couple of years ago I fully expected her to leave school with mostly A's, but she has been so unhappy at school since year nine I will be content if she just comes away with sufficient GCSE's to take up one of the two college places she has been offered. He spirits are noticably lifting as she gets closer to school leaving day and she said the other day she was really looking forward to her life after school!

I would love to meet Small Hare sometime and am glad he seems to be settling so well.
