It's been a crazy two weeks for him, definitely. On the way to the final, there were two five-setters and a few more four-setters on days he wasn't playing particularly well, but managed to pull through anyway. Not something you tend to associate with Roger Federer, but the nerve-wrackingness of it does make it all the more wonderful at the end. :)
He said in an interview for French television that he'd been feeling the pressure all week, and that the victory takes a great weight off his shoulders, "from now through the rest of [his] career". Here's to hoping that that is indeed the case, and that he'll relax from now on and show us much more beautiful, beautiful tennis. ♥
The Rafa fan in me is a little confused at the Fed vs. Rafa debates suddenly springing up in all the places I've gone looking for photos. I guess the way I see it, the accomplishments of either of the two only elevate the accomplishments of the other. With Roger's now-insane Grand Slam record, the fact that he has only lost GS finals to Rafa has to say a lot about Rafa, right? (And, speaking of Rafa, this old interview probably leaves no doubt as to who he'd have wanted to win today. :) Go get yourself well for Wimbledon, dear.)
Is the national anthem during the trophy ceremony something that's unique to Roland Garros? It produced what I thought was a teary but lovely/moving/powerful moment.
In conclusion, 27 is not that old, not at all. Play on, Roger. ^_^
