Before & After I Saw Them: #1, Marc Maron

As a comic book artist, I get to listen to a lot of podcasts while I work. I can't help but build a mental picture of the radio personalities I listen to, so I'm going to illustrate and examine this process- what did they look like in my head, and how did my perception of them change once I knew what they looked like?

Also, I totally get this, I listen to NPR all day and those smooth and somber voices, which are usually attached to really old and not super attractive people.

You inspired me to listen to an episode while sketching right now. It's definitely my favorite podcast and I hadn't listened to it in a few weeks. I'm glad I did, this is a good episode so far. (The Rainn Wilson one.)

I never have much of a... different head image because almost every time I'm listening to a podcast and I don't know what the people look like, I google them. I dunno, maybe I should start imagining some likenesses for people first, could be fun.

Ha!
This post is awesome because it is exactly the kind of thing that will keep Maron up all night. I don't know if you've noticed but he can be a little self obsessed. I can just hear him now..." Do I really sound that fat and old? Does this radio show make me sound bald?"

I actually got to hang out with Mark Maron for a brief bit of time in San Francisco. What you hear on the radio is the real deal. It never stops.
