It was supposed to be like any other afternoon. Wasn't he going back to his secret base to study? But he was at Littleroot, his hometown. His face lit up when he saw his father outside of the house and without thinking, he took off into a run to where his father standing.
"Dad!" He called out, waving his hand in the air and with a huge grin on his face. His bright smile slowly disappeared and his running slowed to a walk when he saw his father's face. "...Dad?"
Professor Birch didn't answer for a moment, silently gazing towards his direction with an unfamiliar look in his eyes. Brendan slowly walked up to his father, frowning. "What's wrong, Dad?"
He drew a sigh and shook his head before turning back to enter the house. Brendan quickly followed after, only to pause for a bit when a cool breeze hit his face before jumping in surprise when the door slammed hard behind him; he looked behind his shoulder to gaze at the door before turning back to his family. They all had the same expressions on their faces, even his younger brother.
"What's wrong?"
"I'm disappointed in you, son." His father spoke. There was an odd echo that rang throughout the living room.
"Wh-wha...?"
"You lied!" His younger brother burst out, yelling. "You said you hated fighting!" Hated fighting!
"What are you--?! Look, I completed the Pokédex, and--!!" He froze, looking at his trainer card.
Eight badges?!
"I looked up to you, Big bro. That you'd be an awesome Pokémon Professor like Dad. You said you wouldn't betray my trust. But you lied! You went and became and fought gym battles!!"
"Wai--" But wasn't it every trainer and his family's dream to become the champion?
"I thought you'd be better than this. I've never thought you'd lie to us, Brendan." You'd lie to us...
Then a familiar looking figure appeared off to the side. Brendan looked over with a small smile. "M-May...?"
"I hate you."
[To those not affected: Brendan has wandered into the girl's restroom as talked to the sinks before falling to his knees and hands, just staring at the ground.]
