The floor in the Medbay was cooler than Toothless would have liked, but it was hardly relevant. While he did, in most cases, prefer to sleep on warm ground (preferably still steaming, really), he would make do with what he had if it meant he could be present when Hiccup woke up ( Read more... )

The movement nearly startled the Night Fury-- he had been so still until right then --but nevertheless, Toothless leaned into the hand and crooned softly. The Viking's fingers running along the middle of his body confused him; there had clearly been something wrong, there, but he hadn't had much of an opportunity to figure out what. Things had just been wrong, smelled wrong and felt wrong and Hiccup was never one to be down for so long anyway-- but the point was that he was awake now. If groggily so.

Shifting and inching his body forward so he could move his head without his neck craned at such an unusual angle, Toothless ducked down to carefully nudge the side of Hiccup's face-- moreover, his eyes. They appeared to be leaking, which Toothless was both unaccustomed to and alarmed by. Faces weren't supposed to leak-- wasn't that usually a notation that humans were sad?

Toothless was quite certain he Did Not Like This. This-- whatever it was that Hiccup was doing, right then, the funny little hitched gasps and the face-leaking. Whatever it was, Toothless was growing steadily less and less fond of it and whatever had caused it. He was far from a stupid animal, he knew something terrible had happened, but he hadn't been present for most of it. Hiccup had gone somewhere, he knew that much. He had gone somewhere, and when he came back things were terrible. There was blood, and there were so many foreign smells that just shouldn't have been thereFocusing that moment on consoling the distraught teenager, Toothless craned his neck forward again and rested lightly over Hiccup's form-- no weight was put on him, as Toothless was more than aware that he classified as fragile at present, but he leaned just close enough to where there was contact and warmth and a general comforting feeling ( ... )
