on friday, toby officially decreed that he and i are temporarily broken up. he was supposed to see me, and we were going to talk about stuff, but he decided he "couldn't do this right now." what a pussy. right now i need to figure out if i'm going to call him and try to get him to have a conversation with me, or just let him figure his own shit ( Read more... )

look me up on soulseek sometime. same name here.
plus, the young ones- i'm contemplating watching the halloween episode with the damned if i can find it on this tape.

as far as toby goes... it won't be easy, but it sounds like letting him figure himself out might be the way to go. patience is impossible sometimes... either way, best of luck.

yay! i will, thanks! and that's my favorite episode of the young ones... "i'm not REALLY a vampire-- i'm a driving instructor! from johannesburg!!"

funny you should say that, because literally a minute ago i called his house after much thumb-hovering over the "talk" button on my phone, and left a message with his mom... i don't know...

I love the Young Ones, but I've never seen the episode with The Damned:(.

Brink style dub?

oh shit! have you not heard that version of "typical girls"?! it's so creepy and cool... it's mostly just the bass drum going continuously, with everything else coming in and out here and there. i love it.

i'll refrain from offering fatuous advice about toby - he probably just needs to do his guy thing for a bit.

look me up on slsk (c&p). should be something of interest in my uk punk and post-punk folder. :)

i shall look you up. it's got the ampersand in there and everything?

the ampersand, yes, but not the brackets.

in a month or two, i'll have more time on my hands and should be able to rip a lot more stuff from vinyl. let me know if there's anything you especially need. if i have it, i'll share. i'd love to get mogel from you.

what's your username? you could msg me at slsk if you didn't want to advertise it.

ah, but it's hard to explain what a perfect match each of my friends is to the other two! besides, i'm the only one with straight-leg pants to roll up, and pretty much anything in rick's wardrobe...

those characters (with the possible exception of mike) were such observable types in schools and colleges in britain in the early 80s. i used to know some riks (maybe i was one), and a few vyvyans (robert nichols, anyone?). neils were something of an endangered species, but there's been a population revival in recent years!

i found this picture of me at art college in the 80s. rik-like hair in full effect. if you could see the front of my jacket you could probably see the strange assortment of of leftist/anarchist badges i used to wear. still haven't figured out whether i'm a marxist or an anarchist, even after 20-odd years.

Funnily enough, in one of the Halloween toons on Homestar Runner, Strong Sad dresses up as Vyvyan. Then again, it's not so surprising considering that the creators of the site are in their thirties and make all sorts of weird Eighties references. The newest Halloween episode refers (through the characters' costumes) to Theo Huxtable of The Cosby Show (and he's declared one of the greatest rappers alive because of the episode with Stevie Wonder where he mixes members of the family into a song), the genie from Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Beaker from the Muppets, and Moocher from the movie Breaking Away.
Yay Liquid Liquid! Nay to Toby.
