So I'm in the mood for posting but not in the mood for a life update so here I am again, oh and hai the new icon is actually kind of apt.

1.  It's kind of late to be talking about It Gets Better project and all the supposed webfighting about it but I only started paying attention to that now, which I'm honestly not that interested in addressing the ( Read more... )

i never really understood why some people were angry about this but i read the blog post linked from your first link and they have valid points but something is better than nothing? i mean if someone wants to make another campaign, go ahead, but this will still help a few people out. i find sometimes in the queer community there is always something that is not inclusive enough and people complain about it ( ... )

Yeah I think something is better than nothing is what she was saying. Also I thought it was clearly a starting point, not the end. I wasn't really aware of the controversies at first cause a good chunk of my follow list are queer brown girls who were probably posting more diverse perspectives than most people were seeing. My take though is I always knew that diverse communities were doing their own thing and they probably don't need Dan Savage to represent them in the first place and I don't really expect him to.

Just from the queer arab debates I follow(I use this example because it's what I know,) I just don't think that's realistic to expect that everyone can fit under one big umbrella, especially with the severely complex politics they're dealing with. I mean yes I would like that outsiders be informed about and respect their perspectives and issues before they decide to open their mouths about it, or be supportive if they're the activisty type, but I think the world is just way too big for there to be one queer reality. very valid/good point. people need to stop taking things so personally. dan savage never said i represent every queer bullied kid in the world. and just because he is a middle class white dude who lives in a liberal city doesn't mean he can't start a campaign and talk about his own experiences and try and be positive.

cheers

This argument bothers me, especially when a bunch of the suicides were "privileged" middle class/cis/white guys. They had problems too obviously.
Where people get mad is the amount of attention they get proportionate to other people. I understand that, but some people turn this into a weird assumption that their life is all moneybags and rainbows, I don't get that and I don't think it's helping.
