It's been a while since I voiced my feelings on how much I hate the concept of NFTs and SaaS and for that matter cryptocurrency. Not hate as in "don't understand" or "it's new and disruptive" but hate as in "I've thought it over because I have half a brain, I can see where it's leading, and it's a terrible place." This prompted me to read some articles about NFTs, a topic I've not really bothered to look into. I suppose there could be some value in this for, say, an artist looking to monetize their work. My first impressions are that it strikes me as something akin to baseball card collecting or something similar to that.

I guess it depends on what exactly you're buying? Do you need to spend 500,000 dollars on a piece of clip art of a cat, or on one of Jack Dorsey's tweets? Even the "pet rocks" that were popularized at one time as a cute novelty still sold for a modest price. I can see where this trend could get out of hand and end up creating some kind of speculative bubble that would come crashing down. Despite being interested in investing, this sort of thing is admittedly outside of my risk tolerance.

Yeah, it looks like baseball card collecting, until you get deeper and realize people are trying to tie that to real-world economics, security tokens, etc ( ... )

This summarizes the issue(s) so well, I'd love to see it on the cover page of leading newspapers... like, "hey people, wake up!!" *smack*
NFT seems so obvious, and cryptocurrency seems nearly as obvious (but maybe one of Elon's rare missteps of belief).... but SaaS stuff.. that one REALLY gets my gourd too! Well-explained, critter!
Not to mention that the subscription versions are often meager when it comes to the features of the standalones. In fact a customer recently tried the latest PShop Elements, and I swear, ..it almost felt (in watching them try it) like they could probably do more with MSoft Paint!

It came up in a discussion last night regarding Substance Painter, which is now $50/mo as "part of the substance painter bundle" with Adobe ( ... )
