For those who haven't heard, Dark Side of the Moon was released 50 years ago today.

I think about music that was 50 years old when I was born, and... well... let's just say it didn't have the same staying power.

Hardly did, didn't it? It's interesting that there's such a distinct break in music somewhere in the early 60s or so. Likely no coincidence that music moved forward at a time when society did, too - it was only when it was freed from the shackles of the past that good things could happen.

Listening to what's popular here these days, I sometimes think the same thing should happen again.

True - also I think it had to do with people getting access to new instruments, e.g. the electric guitar/bass in the earlier 60s, more distorted sounds and better amplifiers and better production equipment in the late 60s-80s, synthesizers and more multitracking and effects in the 70s-80s, samplers in the 80s-90s, instrument replacement and pitch correction and soft synths and really prolific DAW use in the 90s and beyond....

But you're right - maybe I mentioned this when I got it a few months ago - the Model D is essentially a '70s synth, and it excels today for synth-based dance music that didn't exist in the '70s. So there definitely are cultural aspects to it, as well.
