Rumors abound of a lost soul drifting in the nearby forest.  Some say the creature's visage is so terrifying, it evokes visions of hell on Earth.  Others tell tale of the creature's voice, soft and gentle like a spring breeze.  The truth is, nobody knows what wanders through the forest, nor its intentions.  Those who have gotten lost within its ( Read more... )

In the forest, beneath the shade of a tall tree, Soul slept. His body laid sprawled out over the uncut grass, while the roots of the tree were almost acting like a pillow for his head. After a few minutes had passed, the boy slowly blinked his eyes open, and slowly sat up. Letting out an audible groan, he rubbed at the back of his head with a grimace. He didn't remember falling asleep, and his mind felt all groggy and clouded. If not for the slight soreness from laying his head down on that hard root, Soul would have even started to wonder if someone didn't get the drop on him from behind ( ... )

Though Emil had not seen the boy enter the forest, he was still very much aware of his presence. Something about this one was different, though he couldn't quite place a bony finger on it. When he looked at him, he felt a rush of Nostalgia. With the white hair and cool eyes, he looked like a young version of...

Emil shook his head, turning his gaze to the ground sadly. Nier was long gone, and he had no way of finding him at this point. Kaine was gone too, and oh how he missed camping out with her. Despite the wave of sadness wanting to make him cry, he made no sound as the boy rose. Emil felt it best to watch him for now, as he had no idea what his intentions were.

Soul continued on for a few steps more, before finally stopping to catch his breath. He bent down slightly to press his hands against his knees, taking deep breaths. Then he just decided--to Hell with it--and let gravity pull him the rest of the way down, falling back onto the grass on his butt.

"Tch." He was very unsatisfied, and that feeling showed quite clearly on his face.

He wasn't going to fool himself. Soul didn't know these woods, and he wasn't finding any kind of trail to speak of either. He ran a palm over his face, fingers reaching up to scratch thoughtfully into his hair.

"It's no good. ...If could use Soul Perception, then I could at least tell how far the closest village is." He muttered to himself, pulling his hands into his lap with a sigh. "Dammit, Maka. Just where in the world did you go?"

Maka? The name certainly didn't sound familiar. He had to admit, his curiosity was piqued as to who this Maka person was. It sounded like they were friends, at least. Emil felt he could sympathize, living alone all this time, and suddenly you get the dysfunctional family you never had.

Maybe there was a way Emil could guide him to the village without scaring him? Maybe even help him find his Maka friend! His next action took a moment of concentration, but it was hardly a strain on Emil's magical abilities.

An orb of light rises from his hand, drifting forward and illuminating once it was safely far enough away not to reveal Emil's location. The orb seemed to hang in front of Soul at Emil's command, bobbing gently in the air before him.
